About this role

The Big Spring School District is seeking an individual that would be interested in the following EXTRA DUTY POSITION: Strength and Conditioning Coach Job Description Reports to Athletic Director/Activities Director and High School Principal SUMMARY The position is responsible for supervising the school's strength training program and facilities, striving to make such facilities available to student athletes of all sports and students not involved with athletic activities. TIME COMMITMENT During the Fall, Winter, Spring Sports Season a minimum 12 hours per week must be met. During the Summer a minimum 15 hours per week must be met. Fall starts the First day of school and runs for (11 weeks) 50 days, school days only. Winter and Spring start the first Monday of their season runs for (11 weeks) 50 days, school days only. QUALIFICATIONS Possess the ability to work in harmony with students, staff, parents and coaches. Be able to work independently and with minimal supervision. Possess proper judgment and good decision-making skills. Must be physically capable of moving and/or lifting exercise equipment as necessary. Individual should have a Bachelor's degree or higher. (Physical Education degree preferred) If possible, certified strength and conditioning specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association. (CSCS) SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES

• Fitness Center usage beyond the regular school day; and

• Safety throughout the entire Fitness Center.

SUPERVISORY/PERSONNEL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Consult with physical education teachers on programs utilized for classes and effective use of the equipment and facilities;

• Instruct coaches of all sports in development of strength training programs designed to enhance the student's physical preparation for that sport; and

• Assist the athletic trainer with supervision of advanced rehabilitation programs.

ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide all athletics with opportunity to utilize the fitness center regardless of the athletic program in which they participate;

• Provide all athletes with professionally designed strength, conditioning, flexibility, agility and injury prevention programs;

• Provide students not involved with athletics an opportunity to utilize the Fitness Center beyond the regular school day;

• Develop programs for individual athletes to enhance his/her development;

• Strive to provide incentives for participation in the strength training program;

• Make the fitness center available on a regular basis, supervising such facility at any time that permission is granted for a student to use the facility;

• Teach each participant the skills necessary for effective use of the equipment and facilities;

• Contribute to the maintenance of the facility and brings problems to the attention of the Athletic/Activities Director;

• Ensure that the facility is secure following use by those under his/her supervision;

• Submit budget requests to the Athletic/Activities Director on an annual basis; and

• Provide coaches with specific programs to meet the needs of their athletes.

MISCELLANEOUS

• Perform other duties as directed by the District Administration.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Schools, Fitness Center, offices, meeting areas and outdoor settings.

• Regular attendance is required. Persistent absence, and/or leave without pay, is grounds for dismissal.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Frequent travel to school district buildings;

• Frequent walking throughout various areas;

• Often sitting at a desk for extended periods;

• Standing for extended periods of time;

• Moderate moving from 15 to 50 pounds;

• Some carrying – up to 50 pounds;

• Manual dexterity to use office equipment; and

• Repetitive movement of fingers and hands for keyboarding.

SENSORY ABILITIES

• Visual acuity to read correspondence and a computer screen;

• Auditory acuity to be able to use telephones; and

• Ability to speak clearly and distinctly.

• Must be cooperative, congenial and service-oriented, and promote these qualities in the classroom;

• Ability to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision;

• Ability to read, write and do complex computations;

• Ability to use correct grammar sentence structure and spelling;

• Ability to organize office setting to efficiently accomplish tasks;

• Ability to work independently and make work-related decisions;

• Ability to exercise good judgment in prioritizing tasks, and directing staff; and

• Ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels.

• Ability to operate office equipment;

• Must appropriately handle confidential information; and

• Ability to manage a classroom with varied changing, service demand.

LICENSE

• Valid Driver's License
