Job Title: ISS Instructional Paraprofessional Terms of Employment: 185 Days Pay Grade: 105 (High School Diploma) 106 (Associate Degree) 107 (Bachlor Degree) Job Summary: The In-School Suspension (ISS) Instructional Paraprofessional is responsible for maintaining a structured, safe, and productive learning environment for students in grades 6–8 assigned to In-School Suspension. Under the direction of the Principal or designee, this individual supervises students, supports completion of academic assignments, reinforces positive behavior expectations, maintains accurate records, and helps students successfully transition back to their regular instructional setting. Essential Duties

• Maintains a well-organized, orderly, and respectful ISS environment that supports student learning and behavior reflection.

• Supervises students assigned to ISS throughout the school day, ensuring compliance with school rules, ISS procedures, and behavioral expectations.

• Monitors student arrival, attendance, transitions, lunch, restroom breaks, and dismissal in accordance with school procedures.

• Communicates with teachers to obtain, organize, distribute, and collect academic assignments for students assigned to ISS.

• Assists students with understanding directions, organizing materials, and completing independent academic work provided by their teachers.

• Provides appropriate academic support to individual students or small groups while maintaining the integrity of teacher-assigned work.

• Reviews student work for completion and communicates completed assignments or concerns to teachers as directed.

• Encourages students to use appropriate work habits, including staying on task, managing time, and using materials responsibly.

• Reinforces school-wide expectations for respectful behavior, appropriate language, responsible decision-making, and positive peer interactions.

• Implements behavior-support strategies and de-escalation techniques consistent with school division policies and student support plans.

• Maintains confidentiality regarding student discipline, academic performance, special education services, and other protected student information.

• Documents student attendance, assignments received and completed, behavior concerns, interventions, and other required ISS records.

• Communicates significant student concerns, repeated noncompliance, safety issues, or behavioral incidents promptly to the Principal or designee.

• Supports students in completing reflection activities, restorative practices, goal-setting exercises, or re-entry plans as assigned.

• Assists with student re-entry to the regular school setting by reinforcing expectations and communicating relevant information to designated staff.

• Maintains ISS materials, technology, instructional resources, and the physical space in a clean, secure, and organized condition.

• Supervises students during lunch, restroom breaks, transitions, and other noninstructional times associated with ISS placement.

• Assists with clerical tasks related to ISS, including organizing assignments, maintaining logs, preparing forms, and filing records.

• Participates in staff meetings, professional learning, safety training, and in-service opportunities as required.

• Supports school-wide supervision needs, including cafeteria, hallway, bus loading, arrival, dismissal, and other duties as assigned.

• Builds positive, professional relationships with students while maintaining clear boundaries and consistent expectations.

• Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or designee.

Minimum Education and Experience Qualifications Must be a high school graduate and demonstrate an aptitude for the work to be performed. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Board may find appropriate and acceptable. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
