About this role
The CDL Driver Recruiter is responsible for screening, interviewing, and onboarding qualified Commercial Driver's License (CDL) drivers. This role ensures compliance with DOT and FMCSA regulations while maintaining a strong pipeline of professional drivers to meet company staffing needs. The ideal candidate is highly organized, results-driven, and experienced in high-volume recruiting within the transportation and logistics industry.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Recruitment & Talent Acquisition
• Source candidates through job boards, social media, referrals, recruiting events, schools, and industry networking.
• Maintain an active pipeline of qualified drivers to support current and future staffing needs.
• Conduct phone screenings and interviews to evaluate qualifications, driving experience, employment history, and cultural fit.
Driver Qualification & Compliance
• Process driver applications in accordance with DOT and FMCSA regulations.
• Verify employment history, driving records (MVR), PSP reports, DAC reports, and criminal background checks.
• Coordinate pre-employment drug testing, physical examinations, and DOT compliance requirements.
• Ensure driver qualification files are complete, accurate, and maintained according to federal regulations.
• Monitor expiration dates for licenses, medical certificates, and other required documentation during onboarding.
Onboarding & Orientation
• Coordinate new hire orientation and onboarding activities.
• Prepare employment offers and employment documentation.
• Communicate hiring requirements, orientation schedules, and company policies.
• Ensure a positive candidate experience throughout the hiring process.
• Collaborate with Operations and Safety departments to ensure timely driver placement.
Relationship Management
• Serve as the primary point of contact for applicants throughout the recruitment process.
• Maintain consistent communication with candidates regarding application status.
• Build long-term relationships with qualified drivers for future opportunities.
• Promote the company's culture, safety commitment, and career opportunities.
Administrative Responsibilities
• Maintain accurate applicant tracking system (ATS) records.
• Generate recruiting reports, hiring metrics, and staffing updates.
• Track recruiting expenses and advertising effectiveness.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee and applicant information.
• Participate in recruiting events, job fairs, and community outreach initiatives.
Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of 1 years of recruiting experience, preferably in transportation, logistics, staffing, or high-volume recruiting.
• Experience recruiting CDL drivers strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of DOT regulations, FMCSA guidelines, and driver qualification requirements preferred.
• Experience using Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) and recruiting software.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
