About this role
Shop Foreman / Class A CDL Heavy Tow Operator – Gillette, WY
Plains Towing is hiring a reliable, safety-conscious Shop Foreman to support our Gillette and Sundance locations, leading by example on one of the region's largest fleets, including a 60-ton rotator wrecker. Prior towing experience is preferred but not required — we're looking for people with the initiative to learn, and we provide paid in-house training to get you there. Responsibilities grow with you as you progress through training.
Pay & Benefits
• $28–$37/hour DOE, depending on experience
• $2,500 sign-on bonus
• Unlimited overtime and performance bonuses
• Health insurance
• 401(k) with 3% company match
• 40 hours PTO per year, increasing annually
• Uniform, winter gear, and other required PPE provided
Schedule This is a 5-day-per-week schedule, either Sunday–Thursday or Tuesday–Saturday (shift assignment based on rotation/seniority). It's tow/recovery work, not a standard desk job — within those 5 days, expect:
• Shifts that can run 12+ hours depending on call volume
• Occasional long-distance tow/recovery runs on short notice
• Work in all weather conditions
Your Role This is a team leadership role, not a management role — you set the standard through your own performance, not by supervising others. You work closely with the District Manager as the on-the-ground presence across both locations, freeing him to focus on broader district operations and growth. Day to day, you will:
• Load and unload vehicles safely, ensuring damage-free transport
• Operate specialized equipment, progressing from light-duty through heavy-duty recovery certification
• Attend all training courses required for the Class A CDL position as part of your development
• Help schedule and prioritize vehicle maintenance and repairs to minimize fleet downtime
• Assist with facility upkeep and keep assigned equipment in peak condition
• Maintain readiness for occasional long-distance recovery travel on short notice
What You Bring
• Initiative and a self-starter mindset — prior experience preferred, not required
• A commitment to professionalism and premium customer service
• Ability to work 12+ hour shifts and perform in extreme weather or challenging terrain
• A proactive safety mindset — for yourself, your crew, and the public
Qualifications
• 23+ years old
• Valid driver's license required. Class A CDL is required for rotator/heavy-unit positions; a standard license may qualify you for lighter-duty units, with a training and certification path provided into full CDL operation.
• Able to lift 50 lbs occasionally, 25 lbs frequently
• Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen, fit-for-duty physical exam, and background check
