🌿 VACANCY: GENERAL HORTICULTURAL ASSISTANT
Harvest Garden | Hazendal Wine Estate
Do you have a passion for gardening, landscaping, and working outdoors? Hazendal Wine Estate is looking for a dedicated and hardworking General Horticultural Assistant to join our Harvest Garden team.
If you take pride in maintaining beautiful gardens, enjoy working with plants, and have experience operating horticultural equipment and tractors, we would love to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
• Plant, cultivate, irrigate, prune, and maintain vegetables, herbs, fruit trees, and ornamental plants.
• Assist with soil preparation, fertilisation, compost management, and mulching.
• Perform general garden maintenance, including weeding, mowing, trimming, and landscaping.
• Harvest produce according to quality standards.
• Operate and maintain horticultural equipment and tractors safely and efficiently.
• Assist with irrigation system maintenance and basic repairs.
• Monitor plant health and report pests, diseases, or irrigation concerns.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and well-presented garden environment.
• Adhere to all health and safety standards and assist with additional horticultural duties as required.
Minimum Requirements
• Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum of 3 years' experience in gardening, landscaping, or horticultural work.
• Proven experience operating and driving a tractor.
• Good knowledge of plant care, irrigation systems, and general garden maintenance.
• Physically fit and able to perform manual work in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Reliable, hardworking, and committed to maintaining high standards.
Advantageous
• Horticultural qualification or relevant training.
• Valid driver's licence.
• Experience within a commercial garden, farm, winery, or landscaping environment.
