Job summary

Are you looking for a varied, people-focused role where no two days are the same? Beckett House Practice is seeking Receptionist/Administrators to join our friendly and supportive team in Stockwell.

As the first point of contact for many patients, you will play an important role in helping people access the right care, at the right time, from our practice and the wider NHS. This is a rewarding position for someone who enjoys helping others, communicating with a wide range of people and working in a busy environment.

We are looking for caring, organised and reliable individuals who can remain calm under pressure, work well as part of a team and provide excellent customer service. Previous experience in a GP practice is not essential, as full training will be provided.

This is a permanent, full-time role (37.5 hours per week), working a rotating shift pattern between our early and late shifts. We offer a competitive salary of £14.80 per hour (London Living Wage), NHS Pension Scheme membership, 27 days annual leave plus bank holidays, an Employee Assistance Programme and free on-site parking.

Main duties of the job

The Receptionist/Administrator is a key frontline role within the practice. You will:

Welcome and assist patients in person, by telephone and by email.Signpost patients to the most appropriate clinician, service or organisation.Accurately record and communicate patient information.Support appointment management and patient enquiries.Process administrative tasks including prescriptions, referrals and hospital correspondence.Help maintain patient records and register new patients.Support patient recall programmes, screening invitations and immunisation campaigns.Assist patients to access online and digital NHS services.Work closely with GPs, nurses, pharmacists and administrative colleagues as part of a multidisciplinary team.Contribute to the smooth day-to-day running of a busy GP practice.The role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, empathy and the ability to prioritise competing demands while maintaining a high standard of service.

Job SummaryThe Receptionist / Administrator is often the first point of contact for patients and plays a key role in ensuring patients receive a professional, friendly and efficient service.

The post holder will undertake a wide range of reception and administrative duties, supporting both patients and the multidisciplinary team. The role involves helping patients access the most appropriate health service, processing information accurately, managing appointments, supporting clinical administration and contributing to the smooth day-to-day running of the practice.

Receptionists are expected to treat all patients, visitors and colleagues with kindness, dignity and respect, recognising that patients may be unwell, anxious or distressed.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent). Good standard of general education.

Desirable

AMSPAR Receptionist Qualification. NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent.

Experience Essential

Experience of working with the general public. Experience of delivering good customer service. Experience of working as part of a team.

Desirable

Previous administrative experience. Experience of working in healthcare. Experience of working in a GP practice.
