We are currently looking for an Endoscopy Decontamination Technician to join us in our busy Sterile Services Department. The Department provides an important service within the Hospital, Decontaminating flexible endoscopes for the Operating Theatres & Departments.

This post will be working (3 x 10 hour, 1 x 7.5 hour shifts), working weekdays and weekends, and working to an on-call and bank holiday roster.

Main duties of the job

This is a varied role requiring many different skills, for which we will provide full training. You must have GCSE in Maths and English or equivalent and willing to become familiar with many different instruments and sundries. Previous decontamination experience is helpful although not essential but you must be able to communicate well, work within a team and take instruction.

Applicants will also be given the opportunity to undertake training to cover the full range of the decontamination cycle for surgical instruments and theatre sets.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

GCSE Maths GCSE English WTM4 (Eastwood Park), NVQ level 3, City & Guilds or BTec in Decontamination.

Experience Essential

Experience in the decontamination of reusable medical devices, including as a Sterile Services Technician. Working as part of a team. Basic use of IT systems for recording and monitoring information

Desirable

Experience working in/alongside a clinical team.

Practical and Intellectual Skills Essential

Good verbal and electronic communication skills. Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions. Ability to follow precise work instructions accurately and diligently.

Desirable

Able to identify different flexible endoscopes.

Disposition/Adjustment/Attitude Essential

Self-motivated and enthusiastic. Able to work with a minimum of supervision and dependable. Able to concentrate for long periods of time. Ability to operate as part of a team. Ability to work under pressure. Punctual and reliable attitude to work. Commitment to providing a quality service.
