About this role

Job summary

We are seeking two enthusiastic GPs to cover maternity leave at the Goodinge Group Practice, with excellent clinical and communication skills to work with our friendly multi-disciplinary team.

We can offer this on either a sessional/locum basis, or as a salaried fixed-term contract, whichever suits you.

Sessional Locum rate - £360 per session

Salaried fixed-term contract - up to £13,500 per session per annum - depending experience - with full salaried benefits, on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

If you choose the salaried fixed-term route, you will also receive.

Two weeks pro rata private study leave, and two dedicated sessions for appraisal - one for appraisal, one for appraisal preparation - more than most practices provide.

6 weeks annual leave plus bank holidays, pro rata

BMA model contract and paid medical defence subscriptions

Salaried GPs, including those on our fixed-term contracts, rotate participation in a dedicated MDT meeting, held in protected time

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will undertake the full range of duties associated with a GP within an NHS general practice setting, alongside our substantive salaried GP team. Responsibilities include conducting face-to-face and telephone consultations, reviewing and actioning test results, issuing prescriptions, managing clinical correspondence, and making appropriate referrals, as well as supporting the ongoing care of our registered patient population.

You will work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary clinical and administrative team to deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care within a friendly and supportive practice environment.

The Goodinge Group Practice is a long-established GP practice situated in the north London borough of Islington, a five-minute walk from Caledonian Road tube station on the Piccadilly line and a 10-minute walk from Kentish Town tube station on the Northern line. The practice is in a two-storey purpose-built health centre, which also provides a base for community staff, such as district nurses and health visitors and is close to local shops and cafes.

There are approximately 12,500 patients registered with the Goodinge Practice.

The Practice Philosophy

The Goodinge Group Practice puts patient care at the heart of what it does and maintains the values of teamwork, professionalism and compassion in providing traditional family medicine to the local community.

The Practices patients reflect the changing demographics of the area which continues to undergo regeneration. We offer double-length appointments for patients requiring translation.

Training Practice

The Goodinge Group Practice is an established GP training practice. We provide supervision and training for clinical and non-clinical staff members and offer support to our salaried GPs, including those on our fixed-term contracts, through weekly mentoring with a GP partner if desired.

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Good interpersonal and communication skills GMC registration with licence to practise Inclusion on the NHS Performers List Experience working as a GP in UK general practice Competence in managing acute presentations and chronic disease in primary care Safe and effective prescribing practice Strong communication skills with patients, families, and colleagues Ability to work independently while contributing to a multidisciplinary team Commitment to high quality, patient-centred care Good record keeping and understanding of clinical governance, safeguarding, and risk management

Desirable

Experience working with diverse populations Familiarity with EMIS and structured clinical templates
