Job summary
Join us as a Specialist Medicines Optimisation Pharmacy Technician (MOPT) in Family Services and help shape outstanding care for women, new-borns and children at SFT. In this role, you'll bring your clinical expertise to the heart of our wards -- leading medicines reconciliation, supporting safe discharge, advising multidisciplinary teams, and driving high-quality patient-centred practice. You'll work closely with specialist pharmacists to develop and deliver an innovative service that continually evolves to meet the needs of our community.
This is an opportunity for an experienced, motivated technician who has completed an enhanced clinical practice accreditation and who thrives on autonomy, problem-solving and meaningful patient contact. You'll lead, teach and inspire colleagues, contribute to audits and service improvements, and act as a key pharmacy contact for maternity and paediatric teams.

Main duties of the job
Medicines Reconciliation & Discharge: Complete medicines reconciliation, support safe patient discharge, prepare and check discharge medication, and manage patient's own drugs.
Clinical Support: Provide specialist pharmaceutical advice to staff, patients and carers across Family Services, including maternity and paediatrics.
Checking & Supply: Act as an Accredited Checking Technician, ensuring accuracy of dispensed items.
Ward-Based Medicines Management: Work independently at ward level, clinically prioritising workload, supporting nursing teams, and responding to urgent medicines requests.
Service Development: Contribute to audits, project work, service improvements, and strategic development of Family Services pharmacy.
Leadership & Training: Line manage staff, deliver training to pharmacy and multidisciplinary teams, and lead on midwife-led dispensing and Family Services training packages.
Communication & Collaboration: Liaise closely with specialist pharmacists, ward teams, GPs, community pharmacies, patients, and carers to optimise medicines use.
Governance & Compliance: Maintain accurate records, support CD audits, adhere to GPhC standards, uphold Trust values, and participate in weekend working rotas.
