About this role
Pump Strip, Inspection & Assembly
• Select and transport pumps to the workstation in line with job card routing and schedules using appropriate lifting equipment (crane/forklift) • Strip pumps down to individual components using correct procedures and tools • Interpret engineering drawings, GA drawings, and specifications to determine dimensions, tolerances, and assembly requirements • Inspect all components for wear, damage, and compliance with OEM standards • Verify all stripped components against the Bill of Materials (BOM) • Compile detailed condition reports indicating wear status, repair requirements, and replacement needs • Clean, preserve, and correctly store all components for reassembly or dispatch • Liaise with Stores/Purchasing to ensure correct parts are ordered or issued • Confirm completeness of parts kits prior to assembly against BOM • Reassemble pumps in accordance with OEM standards, work instructions, and best practices • Ensure correct tolerances, fits, and clearances during assembly • Perform accurate alignment of all rotating components during assembly • Maintain detailed build records (“build book”) including all measurements, clearances, and replaced components • Conduct pressure and performance testing in accordance with test procedures and document all results • Ensure all replaced/damaged components are quarantined and handled as per client requirements • Obtain client sign-off on completed rebuild documentation where required Machining & Conventional Lathe Operation
• Interpret technical drawings to determine machining processes, tolerances, and material requirements • Perform precision machining of pump components (shafts, sleeves, impellers, etc.) • Set up and operate conventional lathes and associated tooling • Conduct pre- and post-machining operations for weld repairs • Machine components to fine tolerances using cutting, grinding, boring, and drilling techniques • Trim impellers and balance components where required • Measure and verify dimensions using micrometers, verniers, depth gauges, telescopic gauges, and dial indicators (DTIs) • Inspect machined and fabricated components for accuracy, fit, and compliance with specifications Fitting, Alignment & Maintenance
• Perform precision fitting of bearings including white metal, sleeve, roller, ball, and tilting pad types • Assemble and install mechanical components ensuring correct fits and tolerances • Conduct pump and motor alignment using dial indicators or laser alignment tools • Perform fault finding, diagnostics, and troubleshooting on pumps and rotating equipment • Ensure proper installation of seals, gaskets, and auxiliary components
Welding & Fabrication
• Perform welding using MIG, TIG, CO₂, and oxy-acetylene processes as required • Carry out repair welding on ferrous components, including castings • Prepare components for welding and ensure correct post-weld machining and finishing Quality, Safety & Continuous Improvement
• Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with quality standards, procedures, and specifications • Adhere to all health and safety requirements and safe working practices • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment • Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to increased efficiency and reliability
• Ensure all documentation is accurate, complete, and submitted on time General
