*JOB DESCRIPTION*
The Child and Youth Worker (CYW) plays an important role in creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for children and youth ages 6?18 attending our drop-in programs. Working closely with the Program Coordinator, the CYW plans and participates in recreational activities, provides active supervision, and encourages positive social interactions that help members build confidence, develop life skills, and have fun.
We're looking for someone who is energetic, dependable, and passionate about working with children and youth. The ideal candidate leads by example, demonstrating respect, integrity, cooperation, and empathy while fostering meaningful relationships with participants, families, and fellow team members.
This position requires flexibility, as shifts may take place in *Winchester, Iroquois, or both locations*, depending on program needs. The successful candidate models honesty, cooperation, respect, and fair play while building positive, supportive relationships with children, youth, families, and colleagues.
*KEY RESPONSIBILITIES*
* Lead and actively participate in program activities for children and youth * Supervise members to ensure safety, positive engagement, and adherence to Club expectations * Build positive, supportive relationships with children and youth, fostering inclusion and participation * Assist with set-up, clean-up, and maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming program space * Support behaviour management strategies under guidance from Senior Staff or Program Coordinator * Complete required records, attendance, and incident reports accurately and on time * Follow all policies and procedures set by BGC Cornwall/SDG * Participate in team meetings, training, and professional development opportunities * Observe and communicate member behaviour, concerns, or notable achievements to Senior Staff or Program Coordinator * Complete other duties as assigned by the Program Manager or Senior Staff
*Required Education, Skills and Qualifications*
*Knowledge (Education)*
* Working toward or completion of a college diploma or university degree in Child & Youth Care, Recreation, or a related field * Demonstrated competencies in child and youth care settings * Standard First Aid and CPR certification * General understanding of diversity, inclusion, and socio-economic considerations
*Skills (Experience)*
* Experience working with children and youth in a program or recreational setting * Strong interpersonal and communication skills * Leadership experience in program instruction or activity facilitation * Demonstrated conflict resolution skills
*Abilities (Competencies)*
* Ability to mentor and coach children, youth, and peers * Initiative to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision * Multilingualism an asset but not required
*Other*
* Valid driver?s license considered an asset * Must provide a current Vulnerable Sectors Record Check (VSC)
*WORKING CONDITIONS*
Program environment includes an element of unpredictability and noise. The demands of the job vary but include a high degree of visual and listening attention and/or concentration. Also, the job may include lifting and pulling of equipment and at times of heavy objects and clean up duties.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $18.00-$20.00 per hour
