Job Title: Handyman / Facilities HelperJob DescriptionThe Handyman / Facilities Helper supports the maintenance, cleanliness, and operational readiness of campus buildings and grounds. This hands-on role involves performing physically demanding tasks, using a variety of tools, and assisting with repairs and preventive maintenance to keep facilities safe, functional, and presentable. Responsibilities • Perform general facilities maintenance tasks to support the upkeep and efficient operation of buildings and grounds. • Assist with basic mechanical and repair work, using appropriate tools and equipment safely and effectively. • Support preventive maintenance activities to help identify and address issues before they become major problems. • Carry out painting and touch-up work to maintain clean, well-presented interior and exterior spaces. • Help maintain cleanliness and order in work areas, storage spaces, and common areas throughout the facilities. • Lift, move, and carry materials, tools, and equipment as needed to complete maintenance and repair tasks. • Work independently on assigned tasks while managing time effectively to complete daily responsibilities within the scheduled shift. • Follow safety procedures and guidelines to maintain a safe environment for students, staff, and visitors. Essential Skills • Hands-on experience with facilities maintenance and repair tasks. • Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with common maintenance tools and equipment. • Ability to perform preventive maintenance activities under guidance. • Capability to perform physically demanding work, including heavy lifting and extended periods of standing or walking. • Strong time management skills to organize and complete tasks within assigned timelines. • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. • Attention to detail when performing painting, repair, and general maintenance tasks. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Good physical stamina to handle repetitive and physically intensive tasks. • Comfort working in a campus environment with frequent activity and foot traffic. • Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions and established procedures. • Willingness to learn and expand skills in facilities and mechanical maintenance. Work EnvironmentThis role is based at a community college campus and involves working both indoors and outdoors in and around academic buildings and grounds. The schedule runs Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., providing steady daytime hours. The work is physically active and may include lifting, carrying, bending, and standing for extended periods while using standard maintenance tools and equipment in a variety of facility settings. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Whittier, CA. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
