About this role

Job summary

At present, University Hospitals of North Midlands is unable to offer visa sponsorship for Band 2 to Band 4 roles, as these positions do not meet the minimum salary and skill thresholds required under UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) regulations.

The post holder will work with the maternity tobacco dependency treatment services lead and other members to provide individualised stop smoking support to women and families in a flexible and innovative way. This post will contribute to tackling inequalities in health through promoting and supporting people to stop smoking. It focuses on engaging with people in communities and offering them practical support to change their behaviour to achieve their own choices and goals.

Main duties of the job

Specifically, the post holder will:

Provide intermediate stop smoking support throughout pregnancy and the post-natal period, using the support of interventions such as CO monitoring and Nicotine Replacement Therapy.

Work with the specialist Maternity Tobacco Dependency Treatment Services Lead to deliver all elements of the Smokefree pregnancy agenda including administration, data collection and collation.

Promote the general health and wellbeing of people who use the service through offering healthy lifestyle advice and support.

Seek out opportunities to develop and implement stop smoking services in a range of health and community settings.

Work with minimal indirect supervision operating within the assessed level of competence and being accountable for all aspects of own work.

Job description Job responsibilities

To plan and deliver stop smoking advice and support sessions, including advice on stop smoking medications, working within recommended protocols and guidelines. This may involve individual, telephone, on-line and group work sessions in a variety of settings and venues

Identify and approach women who are eligible for tobacco dependence conversations and treatment in a variety of different settings. These may be in a clinical area, virtually or in a persons home. Follow women through their engagement with the stop smoking service to promote integrated care with maternity services.

Develop individually tailored support plans including recommending treatments based on assessed needs.

Provide general health, lifestyle advice and support to people using the service e.g. healthy eating, physical activity, stress management. This will include individual and group-based interventions, signposting and referring to other health, community, and voluntary services.

Participate in educating pregnant women about the benefits of stopping smoking in pregnancy and give support to those women wanting to quit. Promote smoke free homes and support and advise women and families about passive smoking.

Deliver Carbon Monoxide (CO) monitoring to a high standard and engage in the data collection and collation of CO rates in pregnancy and post-partum.

Maintain accurate up to date and comprehensive records at all times.

Ensure that the relevant equipment is provided and maintained on an agreed schedule. Report any failings of equipment or other environmental factors to the Maternity Tobacco Dependency Treatment Services Lead.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

GCSE Level English GCSE Level Maths NVQ L3 or 4 or equivalent health related studies or substantial smoking cessation experience delivering intervention and support

Desirable

Smoking cessation advisor intermediate qualification

Knowledge and skills Essential

Experence in providing healthcare advice or promoting healthy lifestyle advice Ability to work independently experience of providing one to one support and /or counselling or as part of a group session Good IT skills The ability to build and maintain good relationships with the MDT

Desirable

Experience of offering smoking cessation support to pregnant woman and people Smoking cessation NCSCT training Experience of using electronic clinical record systems
