Job summary
Springhill Hospice is seeking an experienced healthcare professional to join our Education Team as a Palliative Care Education Facilitator.
Help shape the future of palliative and end of life care by delivering engaging, evidence-based education and training to healthcare professionals, carers and community organisations, helping to improve palliative and end-of-life care across a range of settings.
The role involves developing learning resources and delivering both face-to-face and virtual teaching sessions tailored to the needs of different audiences, and which will help generate income.
We are looking for a registered healthcare professional with significant palliative care experience, excellent communication skills and a passion for supporting others to provide outstanding compassionate care.

Main duties of the job
Support the design, development, delivery and evaluation of high-quality education, training and workforce development programmes that enhance the knowledge, skills, confidence and competence of staff, students, volunteers and external health and care professionals in palliative and end-of-life care, mandatory training and clinical practice.
Contribute to fostering a culture of continuous learning, evidence-based practice, innovation and quality improvement, enabling individuals and teams to deliver safe, compassionate and person-centred care that reflects Hospice values and best practice.
Working collaboratively with colleagues and external partners, the postholder will play a key role in developing, promoting and expanding the Hospice's education provision, supporting organisational sustainability through the delivery of commissioned training, study days, accredited programmes and other educational initiatives that extend the reach and impact of hospice expertise across the wider health and social care community

This role is based at Springhill Hospice Education Hub.
Springhill Hospice provides the following specialist palliative care services to adult patients with life-shortening illnesses:
A 16-bed Inpatient unit providing 24-hour medical and nursing care.
Hospice at Home Service for people who want to end their days in their own home by providing the support and symptom management they need to be able to do so.
A Wellbeing Support Service operating Monday Thursday, with sessions both within the Hospice and in community settings, offering different programmes for wellbeing, symptom self-management and advance care planning.
A Community Service providing specialist palliative care and support to patients and families in their own homes, including a Night Sitting service.
A 24-hour Palliative Care Advice Line for patients, families, carers and health professionals.
Bereavement Support for people who are experiencing difficulty in their grieving process following the loss of a loved one.
Counselling Services for patients, carers and relatives who are experiencing psychological and emotional distress in their lives as a result of their own life shortening illness or the illness of someone significant to them.
Education and Training Centre providing specialist courses in palliative care and a range of other training programmes for Hospice staff and local health and social care professionals.

Main responsibilities
Work collaboratively with the Education Lead to develop, deliver and evaluate the Hospices education strategy through the design and implementation of training.
Support the design and delivery of the Hospice's commercially viable education portfolio that meets the needs of external partners and learners and increases education income contributing to the financial sustainability of the Hospice.
Develop and maintain relationships with healthcare providers, educational institutions, care homes, primary care networks and other stakeholders to maximise educational opportunities.
Contribute to the planning, organisation and delivery of educational and engagement events to generate income and raise the profile of Springhill Hospice.
Contribute to the production of reports relating to educational activity, learner engagement and income generation.
Work with colleagues across the Hospice to identify funding and grant opportunities and partnership initiatives that support educational development.
Education:
Provide high quality evidence-based education and training sessions.
Demonstrate a high level of knowledge around Palliative and End of Life Care (EOLC) including Advance Care Planning, Communication Skills training, pain and symptom management.
Support all teams to continually develop their clinical practice through the promotion of EOLC tools.
Actively support practitioners and primary care practices to raise clinical standards and achieve continual quality improvement of services.
Contribute to educational quality assurance processes, for example evaluations and making appropriate changes to course delivery to ensure fitness for purpose.
Assess learners information needs and provide relevant information to meet those needs through a variety of training provision; support people to understand and adapt programmes of learning, as necessary, to reflect the local need and respond to evaluation.
Represent and promote the Hospice locally, regionally and nationally in a variety of palliative and end of life care education forums.
Professional:
Maintain own professional status and ensure compliance with professional body requirements for registration.
Maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of palliative care education.
To be aware of EOLC Education initiatives and attend relevant meetings as required.
Maintain a personal professional portfolio and engage in the Hospice appraisal process.
Maintain effective and supportive relationships with all disciplines within the organisation and externally, as appropriate.
Act as a role model at all times and contribute towards the provision of nursing expertise and specialist knowledge within the area of practice.
Actively participate in multi-professional group meetings/working groups as required.
Keep up to date with current issues and developments in nursing and healthcare.
Clinical Governance, Research and Audit
Ensure processes are in place to identify, collect and evaluate information in order to support clinical decision-making.
Teach on evidence-based guidance and clinical practice.
Undertake audits and projects related to education as agreed with the Education Lead.
General
Attend Team Meetings as appropriate.
Participate in all relevant parts of the Hospices Mandatory Training Programme.
Maintain excellent lines of communication internally with all staff and volunteers, and externally with supporters within the local community.
Act as an ambassador for Springhill Hospice, attending networking and promotional events appropriate to the role.
Read, understand and comply with all Hospice policies and procedures, applying the principles appropriate to the role.
To be aware of individual specific responsibilities in respect of the Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults, in relation to the role.
Undertake any other duties as appropriate to the role.
Person Specification
Experience Essential
Previous experience of working with patient with palliative care needs. Experience of multi-disciplinary working.
Desirable
Recent experience of teaching in a classroom setting. Working knowledge of end-of-life tools. Experience of working at clinical band 6 level. Experience of supporting learners, students, and newly qualified staff in practice.
Knowledge and Skills Essential
Ability to work as a member of the Hospices multi-disciplinary team. Excellent interpersonal skills. IT literate with PowerPoint and database spreadsheets. Ability to motivate self and others. Able to communicate with a variety of roles. Demonstrates initiative, resilience and problem-solving skills.
Desirable
Experience in developing training programmes. Teaching, assessment and presentation skills. Ability to motivate self and others and generate interest in palliative care. Self-awareness and mature outlook. Ability to teach, coach and support learners with differing needs and experience levels.
Qualifications Essential
Registered Nurse (Level 1) with a minimum of 3 years post registration experience. Evidence of continued professional development and willingness to undertake further study in palliative care.
Desirable
Teaching qualification Qualification in palliative care (or currently undertaking) Diploma/degree in palliative care
