Situated within beautiful gardens and grounds, the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability (RHN) is a leading national centre of excellence and one of the longest-running charities and independent hospitals in the UK.

Set in a stunning Grade II listed Victorian building, the RHN provides adult person-centred services across the entire care pathwayfrom post-acute rehabilitation to end-of-life carefor people with complex neuro-disabilities and their families. Underpinned by a strong research and education framework, the RHN is more than a hospital; it is a vibrant community where residents engage in music, art, and holistic support to achieve the best possible quality of life.

We are looking for a motivated and organised Music Therapy Assistant to join our specialist Music Therapy team at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability.

Working alongside HCPC-registered music therapists, you will support the delivery of music therapy services across a range of specialist neurorehabilitation and long-term care settings, while also assisting with the day-to-day administration of the department.

This role would suit someone with a strong interest in music and healthcare who enjoys working collaboratively and has excellent organisational and communication skills.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone at the beginning of their career to develop their knowledge, skills, and experience within a supportive specialist healthcare environment, while contributing to the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care.

This is a two-year fixed-term position, with the potential for renewal subject to future funding.

Main Objectives of the role

To support the safe, effective and efficient delivery of the Music Therapy Service by providing administrative, practical and clinical support under the supervision of registered Music Therapists.

To contribute to the day-to-day operational running of the Music Therapy Department through the coordination of equipment, resources, procurement and departmental administration.

To maintain accurate departmental records, inventories, expenditure monitoring documents and activity data, escalating issues to the Clinical Lead where appropriate.

To support the department in meeting RHN standards for governance, health and safety, information governance, infection prevention and risk management.

To work collaboratively with the Music Therapy team and wider multidisciplinary colleagues, demonstrating the RHNs values and contributing to the continuous improvement of the Music Therapy Service.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Support

Assist registered Music Therapists with the preparation and delivery of individual and group music therapy sessions.

Prepare, clean and maintain treatment rooms, instruments and equipment.

Support volunteers and students where appropriate.

Undertake delegated clinical and non-clinical tasks under the supervision of a registered Music Therapist.

Administration

Provide administrative support to the Music Therapy Department.

Prepare agendas, take minutes and maintain departmental records and databases.

Coordinate room bookings and support routine departmental reporting.

Procurement and Resources

Coordinate purchasing requests authorised by the Clinical Lead.

Maintain records of orders, deliveries and departmental expenditure.

Keep departmental budget monitoring records up to date and highlight significant expenditure to the Clinical Lead.

Maintain an accurate inventory of departmental equipment and resources.

Coordinate servicing, maintenance and disposal of equipment in accordance with RHN procedures.

Governance and IT

Complete routine risk assessments and environmental safety checks.

Report maintenance issues using RHN reporting systems.

Support the management of departmental devices, software and digital resources in accordance with RHN policies.

Assist with the extraction of activity data and preparation of information for service and fundraising reports.

Professional Responsibilities

Work within RHNs policies relating to confidentiality, safeguarding, health and safety, infection prevention and information governance.

Participate in supervision, appraisal, mandatory training and departmental meetings.

Develop effective working relationships with colleagues across the RHN.

Undertake other duties appropriate to the grade.
