Job summary
We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Senior Finance Assistant to join our Finance Team. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with reconciliation, bookkeeping and financial administration skills to play a key role in supporting the financial management of a busy and successful GP Practice.
Working closely with the Finance Manager, you will support the delivery of financial services across income management, expenditure processing, payroll administration, banking and financial reporting. You will also work closely with the Finance Assistant, helping to ensure finance processes are completed accurately and efficiently.
The successful candidate will have experience working in a finance environment, possess excellent attention to detail and be confident working with financial systems, reconciliations and spreadsheets. Previous experience within the NHS or primary care environment would be advantageous but is not essential.
Main duties of the job
The Senior Finance Assistant will support the Finance Manager in all aspects of financial administration and control across the Practice.
Key responsibilities include:
Monitoring, reconciling, and recording income received from NHS and non-NHS funding sources. Investigating income discrepancies and ensuring all income due to the Practice is identified and collected. Raising invoices and monitoring payments received. Processing supplier invoices and supporting payment runs. Undertaking regular bank reconciliations and investigating discrepancies. Assisting with cashflow monitoring and transfers between accounts. Acting as the main liaison with the outsourced payroll provider, collating, and submitting payroll information. Reviewing payroll reports and supporting payroll and pension queries. Supporting the annual budget-setting process and ongoing budget monitoring providing financial analysis as required. Contributing to the continuous improvement of finance systems and processes.

Role description
To support the Finance Manager in delivering financial services for the Practice across income, expenditure, payroll administration, banking, reconciliation and financial administration activities.
The post holder will be responsible for monitoring and reconciling Practice income, processing and monitoring expenditure, coordinating payroll information with the outsourced payroll provider, undertaking cashflow and banking activities and supporting the annual accounts process.
The role will work closely with the Finance Assistant, helping to ensure finance processes are completed accurately and efficiently.
Person Specification
Experience Essential
Experience working within a finance or accounts environment Experience of income, expenditure, and bank reconciliation. Experience using accounting software and Microsoft Excel. Experience supporting budget monitoring activities.
Desirable
Experience within General Practice, Primary Care or the NHS. Experience of payroll administration and working with outsourced payroll providers.
Qualifications Essential
GCSE Grade A to C or equivalent in English and Mathematics. AAT Level 3 qualification or equivalent relevant finance experience.
Desirable
Relevant accounting, bookkeeping or finance qualification.
Skills Essential
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Strong numerical and analytical skills. Good organisational and prioritisation abilities. Effective communication skills with a range of stakeholders. Honest, professional and able to demonstrate the highest standards of integrity. Reliable and discreet when handling financial, payroll and employee information.
