About this role

Job summary

This one-year fixed term post supports the provision of education for undergraduate medical students with an emphasis on simulation/Technology Enhanced Learning - TEL and clinical skills. It is a unique opportunity for a resident doctor with an interest in education to develop a high-level of capability working in the field of simulation and inter-professional training. The successful applicant will require commitment and enthusiasm, leadership qualities and the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. The post is aimed at those who wish to build on prior experience of medical educational with an opportunity to develop expertise in educational theory, practice, and supervised research.

Main duties of the job

Education and development responsibilities:? To develop personal skills in advanced simulation-based education including:? An understanding of educational theories

? Knowledge of providing simulation-based education (course design, scenario design,facilitation and debriefing techniques);? Assessment and evaluation methodology.? Knowledge of human factors and crisis resource management and their role in simulationbased learning and the wider clinical environment.? Participate in the development and teaching of new and existing courses in the simulationand clinical skills environment to ensure that curriculum needs for medical studentsare met. This will include delivering multi-professional courses for undergraduate medicalstudents in conjunction with experienced faculty within the Simulation Suite.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training Essential

MBBS qualification 2 years post completion of UK Foundation Training (FY1 and FY2) Evidence of participation in a medical education- related study program Full GMC registration with a license to practice at time of appointment.

Desirable

Higher degree (MSc, MD, PhD or equivalent Publications in recognised medical or academic journals Evidence of a teaching qualification Training in pre-briefing & debriefing methodology Completion of a simulation-focused 'Train the Trainers' program

Skills, Knowledge and Experience Essential

Evidence of experience in a range of specialties, with experience of managing complex patients in hospital Competence in independent management of medical emergencies Previous Experience in Simulation Excellent communication skills Excellent skills in written and spoken English Evidence of clinical teaching including simulation Knowledge of key concepts of Human factors in healthcare

Desirable

An understanding of NHS management and resources Three years or more of post-foundation training Leadership or management roles Previous experience using technology applicable to simulation Previous experience of delivering simulation sessions and in debriefing Experience of operating simulation manikins / part task trainers and audiovisual equipment in a teaching environment. Able to demonstrate proficiency in a range of medical procedures and medical emergencies.
