Job summary
UCLH is recruiting a Waste & Energy Manager (Band 8A) to lead Trust-wide utilities (energy & water), waste and environmental data management. This role is central to delivering efficiency, financial stability and accurate reporting across a large, complex, multi-site estate.You will own the Trust's three pillars of delivery: (1) Utilities - drive performance through robust metering, monitoring & targeting, invoice validation and actionable insights; (2) Waste Management - assure complete and compliant waste service, waste data, reduce costs and improve segregation and recycling; (3) Environmental Data & Reporting - lead the annual ERIC return and provide high-quality reporting to key stakeholders including Estates & Facilities leadership, Sustainability & Energy Boards and Trust Board.
Main duties of the job
We're looking for an analytically strong, improvement-focused professional with experience in utilities/waste management, excellent stakeholder skills and a proven track record turning data into measurable savings. You'll collaborate with our Sustainability team while keeping efficiency, finance and data assurance as your primary focus.Base: John Astor House. Hours: 37.5 per week. Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications Essential
Degree in waste or energy management related subject. NEBOSH or IOSH qualification WAMITAB / CIWM Qualifications CIWM (Chartered Institution of Waste Management) qualifications Working towards CIWM Graduate or Chartered Member status Working knowledge and experience in: Environmental Protection Act 1990 Duty of Care Regulations Hazardous Waste Regulations Carriage of Dangerous Goods (ADR) COSHH Infection prevention and control requirements Significant experience managing utilities data (energy & water) in a large, complex, multi-site organisation Experience managing waste data and compliance processes Proven track record in accurate, assured reporting (e.g., ERIC, Board reports, audit responses) Experience with metering/AMR/SMART, BMS/BEMS data, and invoice validation Experience leading cost-saving and efficiency initiatives with measurable outcomes Experience with utilities/waste suppliers, contractors or invoice validation providers NHS E&F experience including ERIC/EFM requirements
Desirable
Knowledge of national guidance (e.g., HTM 07-01 for waste) Relevant professional membership/qualification (EMA, IEMA, CEM, etc.)
