About this role

Job summary

We are seeking a Senior Financial Analyst for Costing and Service Line Reporting in the Financial Management Team.

The role is required to support the development, production, analysis and continuous improvement of Patient Level Information and Costing systems (PLICS), Service Line Reporting (SLR), and assist with the provision of financial advice and analysis to support divisional management teams and facilitate decision making.

The post holder will work with clinical and non-clinical directorates. You will be an enthusiastic and conscientious CCAB part-qualified accountant with management accounts or costing experience, preferably within the NHS. We are looking for someone who is a team player, with good verbal and written communication skills, who is able to support both the Service Line Reporting Accountant and Operational managers in delivering their financial responsibilities. The successful candidate should have some experience of analysis of large and complex data sets, advanced Excel skills, and financial systems/processes.

The role will participate in the provision of appropriate training to budget holders to ensure they understand their results. Some support to complete professional accountancy qualifications will be available. The postholder would be expected to be work onsite on a regular basis.

Main duties of the job

Analyse and process large quantities of highly complex information on costs, income and activity from multiple systems Prepare reports and variance analyses which enable stakeholders to quickly identify risks, trend and concerns Support the production of the annual National Cost Collection (NCC) Work with Managers so that they understand their results Participate in the development, production, reporting and use of SLR and PLICS in the Trust. Support the automation and reconciliation of the complex financial and non financial data feeds for costing

Job description Job responsibilities

The production and reconciliation of monthly, quarterly and annual costing reports, providing analysis of service performance, profitability and key trends. Analyse complex financial, activity and workforce data to identify trends, benchmarking opportunities and areas for improvement. Develop and maintain reports, dashboards and analytical tools for budget holders to support preparation of Business Plans, proposals for service reconfigurations, service developments, option appraisals and cost improvement schemes. Present costing information and analysis to finance and non-finance stakeholders providing advice, guidance and training where required. This may involve the presentation of both written and oral reports to groups of non-financial managers using appropriate software (e.g Microsoft Power BI) Produce, maintain and develop the Trusts Patient Level Information and Costing System (PLICS) and Service Line Reporting (SLR) outputs. Support the preparation and submission of National Cost Collection, PLICS and other statutory costing returns, ensuring robust audit trails and documentation are in place. Ensure costing methodologies comply with NHS costing standards and accurate cost allocation and mapping structures are in place. Work collaboratively with clinical, operational, and information teams as well as colleagues within Finance to improve costing accuracy and support service development. Process, validate and reconcile data from multiple sources, ensuring data quality and integrity within the costing system. Support the development, testing and continuous improvement of costing systems, processes and automated reporting solutions. Any other financial duties as required, commensurate with the grade of the post.

Qualifications Essential

A degree, or equivalent experience Completed at least first level of exams leading to registration as a CCAB Qualified Accountant or equivalent

Experience Essential

At least three years of experience of working in Management Accounts or costing Good spreadsheet skills Use of Financial systems/ processes

Desirable

Previous finance experience within an NHS Acute Trust

Skills Essential

Good communication skills, both written and verbal Sound knowledge of financial processes including cost accounting techniques, management accounting and budgetary control Experience of analysis of large and complex data sets

Prior experience with Oracle Financials software Prior experience with the NHS Patient level Information and Costing system
