Join Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a Consultant Haematologist, delivering high-quality, patient-centred care across inpatient, outpatient and laboratory services. You will work within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team across two sites, supporting diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of haematology patients. Main duties of the job
Deliver high-quality clinical, educational and managerial services at Consultant level. Provide direct patient care including assessment, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management. Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team across Ashford & St Peter's and Royal Surrey County Hospital. Participate in ward rounds, outpatient clinics, MDT meetings, day unit and anticoagulation services. Contribute to on-call rotas and provide senior clinical cover, including reviewing admissions and triaging patients. Support teaching, training and supervision of junior medical and non-medical staff. Engage in clinical governance, audit, research and quality improvement activities. Provide clinical leadership and contribute to service development and innovation. Support recruitment, appraisal, mentoring and development of multidisciplinary colleagues. Maintain responsibility for patient care, including safe handover and providing specialist advice to other teams.

he Consultant Haematologist will deliver high-quality, patient-centred care across Ashford & St Peters Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Royal Surrey County Hospital. Working within a collaborative multidisciplinary team, the post holder will contribute to the diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of patients with malignant and non-malignant haematological conditions. The role combines clinical leadership, direct patient care, teaching, research and service development, supporting a modern, integrated haematology service.
Key Responsibilities Clinical Duties Provide expert clinical care across inpatient, outpatient and day unit settings, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of patients. Participate in ward rounds, outpatient clinics, multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and laboratory services. Deliver senior clinical decision-making, including triaging referrals, reviewing potential admissions and ensuring timely investigations and management plans. Provide specialist advice to colleagues across other specialties and contribute to shared patient care. Maintain continuity of care, including safe and effective patient handover. On-Call and Service Delivery Participate in the consultant on-call rota, providing senior cover and support for acute haematology services. Deliver comprehensive consultant-led care, ensuring safe, effective and responsive services. Support delivery of anticoagulation, transfusion and haematology day unit services. Leadership and Team Working Work collaboratively with consultants, nursing staff, allied health professionals and management teams to deliver a high-quality, well-led service. Provide clinical leadership within the department, supporting service improvement and innovation. Contribute to recruitment, appraisal, mentoring and development of multidisciplinary staff. Teaching, Training and Education Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, training and supervision of junior doctors and other staff. Contribute to educational programmes, formal teaching sessions and professional development activities. Clinical Governance, Audit and Research Engage in clinical audit, governance and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and service delivery. Participate in and support research activities and development of specialist interests aligned to service needs. Maintain accurate records and comply with clinical governance and regulatory requirements. Service Development and Management Contribute to the ongoing development of the haematology service, including pathway redesign and innovation. Support efficient use of resources and delivery of performance targets. Participate in departmental and Trust meetings, contributing to strategic and operational planning. Professional Responsibilities Maintain continuous professional development and comply with GMC and NHS standards. Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Hold an MRCP(UK) qualification. Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (or CCT) by the time of taking up the post or be accredited for inclusion on the General Medical Council's Specialist Register. Fully registered with the General Medical Council
Experience Essential
Providing direct clinical care. Active participation in clinical audit . Experience in developing effective and collaborative working relationships.
