• A CDA certificate OR
• A bachelor's or higher degree in early childhood education, PK or primary education, preschool education or family and consumer sciences, OR
• A bachelor's or higher degree in elementary education, if the PK student instructor has been certified to teach children from age birth through sixth grade, regardless of whether the instructor's educator certificate is current, OR
• An associate's or higher degree in child development, OR
• An associate's or higher degree in an unrelated field, at least 6 credit hours in early childhood education or child development and at least 480 hours of experience in teaching or providing child care services for children any age from birth through 8 years of age.
Note: The following training is also required for all VPK instructors:
• VPK Assessment training (available online)
• Teaching Strategies Gold Training (available online)
• Emergent Literacy for VPK Instructors (available on DCF website)
• Standards for Four Year Olds (available on DCF website)
• Any additional required training from Episcopal Children's Services so that the program can be a registered VPK site.
Desired Qualifications:
• 3 years' experience working with preschool age children.
• Experience working with high school age students.
BACKGROUND SCREENING: All prospective employees must submit to a Level 2 background check pursuant to Florida State Statute 435.04 and be found eligible by the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse. The background check will include, but is not limited to, fingerprinting for statewide criminal history records checks through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, national criminal history records checks through the Federal Bureau of Investigation, local criminal records checks through local law enforcement agencies, and a search of the sexual predator and sexual offender registries of any state in which the prospective employee resided during the immediate preceding 5 years.
