About this role

Job Summary The Food Service Cook is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, appealing meals to students and staff while maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen environment. The cook follows standardized recipes, food safety regulations, and district procedures to ensure high-quality meal service in accordance with federal, state, and local guidelines. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepare breakfast and lunch items according to menus and standardized recipes.

• Cook, bake, and prepare food using commercial kitchen equipment.

• Ensure meals meet USDA nutrition standards and district requirements.

• Assist with food preparation, portioning, serving, and packaging of meals.

• Maintain proper food temperatures during preparation, holding, and serving.

• Operate kitchen equipment safely, including ovens, steamers, mixers, slicers, and dishwashing equipment.

• Receive, inspect, and properly store food and supply deliveries.

• Maintain accurate production records, temperature logs, and other required documentation.

• Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, work areas, serving lines, utensils, and storage areas.

• Wash dishes, trays, pots, pans, and kitchen equipment.

• Follow all sanitation, safety, and health department regulations.

• Assist with inventory counts and notify the Food Service Director of supply needs.

• Work cooperatively with food service staff, school employees, students, and visitors.

• Provide friendly and courteous customer service.

• Attend required food safety and professional development training.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Food Service Director or Superintendent.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.

• Knowledge of basic food preparation techniques.

• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.

• Ability to accurately follow recipes and written instructions.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Strong organizational and time management skills.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

Physical Requirements

• Stand and walk for extended periods.

• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

• Frequently bend, reach, stoop, twist, and kneel.

• Push and pull carts containing food and supplies.

• Work in hot, cold, and humid kitchen environments.
