Position: Public Safety, Legal and Protective Services Instructor Rindge School of Technical Arts/Cambridge Rindge & Latin School Rindge School of Technical Arts Community: The Rindge School of Technical Arts (RSTA) is the Career and Technical Education program at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, providing students with a rigorous, hands-on education that prepares them for college, careers, and lifelong learning. The Opportunity: We are seeking a dedicated, knowledgeable, and passionate Public Safety, Legal and Protective Services Teacher to lead our high school CTE program. The ideal candidate will prepare students for rewarding careers in law enforcement, emergency response, fire safety, corrections, and the legal system. Through rigorous hands-on training and classroom instruction, you will guide students toward earning critical Industry Recognized Credentials (IRCs) and gaining a comprehensive understanding of the criminal justice system. Key Responsibilities:
• Deliver Core Curriculum: Teach essential topics including Community Policing, Crime Scene Investigation (CSI), Criminal and Constitutional Law, Emergency Preparedness, Surveillance and Interviewing Techniques, and Cybersecurity.
• Hands-on Training: Develop and implement practical lab activities, simulated mock trials, and crime scene scenarios to build technical competencies.
• Incorporate Math & Cross-Industry Skills: Integrate contextual academic skills, such as investigative mathematics and report writing, into the daily curriculum.
• Instructional Alignment: Manage and deliver 900+ hours of required technical learning time for Chapter 74 approved programs; utilizing frameworks provided by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Credentialing & Safety Management:
• Facilitate Certification: Prepare students to successfully earn required safety and industry credentials, including OSHA 10 General Industry, Basic Life Support (BLS), Heartsaver First Aid, and Telecommunicator Certification.
• Maintain Safety Standards: Develop and strictly enforce a comprehensive program Safety and Health Plan. Ensure students safely operate all industry-standard equipment.
Student Support & Community Engagement:
• Advising: Guide students through My Career and Academic Plan (MyCAP) to align their high school coursework with future career goals or post-secondary education.
• Industry Partnerships: Collaborate with an program advisory committee consisting of local law enforcement, fire chiefs, and legal professionals to keep the curriculum relevant to current labor market trends.
• Work-Based Learning: Facilitate internships, job shadowing, and networking opportunities for students with local public safety agencies.
Your Qualifications & Skill Set:
• Professional Experience: A minimum of 3–5 years of recent, full-time employment in a related public safety field (e.g., Police Officer, Firefighter/EMT, Paralegal, Telecommunicator, or Corrections Officer).
• Education: Bachelor's degree preferred, or an equivalent combination of industry experience and academic credentials.
• Valid State Teacher License: Vocational Technical Education (Legal and Protective Services / Public Safety) or eligibility to obtain one.
• Active professional certifications: highly preferred (e.g., EMT, Paramedic, BLS Instructor, civil service personnel.
Key Competencies:
• Strong classroom management skills with the ability to engage a diverse student population.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for writing lesson plans, engaging families, and collaborating with local agencies.
• Proficiency with educational technology and industry-specific software.
