About this role

Position Summary: The Homebound Teacher provides individualized instructional services to students who have been approved for homebound or home-based instruction due to documented medical or other qualifying circumstances. The Homebound Teacher collaborates closely with school administrators, classroom teachers, families, and related service providers to ensure continuity of instruction and support student academic progress while maintaining compliance with division and Virginia Department of Education requirements. Job Type: Part-Time / Hourly Contract: Hourly, As Needed FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Minimum Qualifications:

• Holds or is eligible for a valid Virginia teaching license.

• Demonstrates effective instructional practices across grade levels and subject areas as appropriate.

• Possesses strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

• Demonstrates the ability to work independently while maintaining collaborative relationships with school personnel and families.

• Maintains confidentiality and professionalism in accordance with School Board policy and applicable state and federal regulations.

• Has reliable transportation to assigned instructional locations within the division.

Essential Functions:

• Provide instructional services to students approved for homebound or home-based instruction in accordance with division procedures and student service plans.

• Deliver instruction in the student's home, community setting, approved instructional location, or designated homebound learning lab.

• Collaborate with school administrators, classroom teachers, counselors, and other instructional staff to implement each student's academic program.

• Coordinate the delivery, completion, and return of assignments, instructional materials, and assessments between the student and the school.

• Maintain regular communication with the student's school regarding instructional progress, attendance, participation, and instructional needs.

• Document instructional hours, travel, attendance, student progress, and required records accurately and submit documentation within established timelines.

• Ensure assignments and completed coursework are returned to classroom teachers by grading deadlines.

• Administer classroom, division, and state assessments as directed.

• Communicate promptly with parents, guardians, school staff, and supervisors regarding changes or interruptions in instructional services.

• Participate in required professional learning related to homebound instruction and division initiatives.

• Maintain student confidentiality and comply with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of Virginia Standards of Learning and instructional best practices.

• Knowledge of differentiated instruction and individualized learning strategies.

• Ability to establish positive relationships with students, families, and school personnel.

• Ability to adapt instruction to meet individual student needs.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.

• Proficiency in the use of instructional technology, learning management systems, and Microsoft Office or Google Workspace applications.

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining communication with school personnel.

Reports To: Director of Special Education & Federal Programs Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with School Board policy and administrative procedures. • Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.

• Bend, stoop, kneel, climb stairs, and enter and exit vehicles safely.

• Lift, carry, and transport instructional materials and equipment as needed.

• Read printed materials and computer screens with or without corrective devices.

• Hear and communicate effectively in person, virtually, and by telephone.

• Travel independently to assigned instructional locations throughout Middlesex County.

Working Conditions:

• Instruction is provided in students' homes, approved community locations, designated instructional facilities, or other approved settings.

• Work schedule is flexible based upon student assignments and instructional needs.

• Frequent travel throughout the school division is required.

• May work with students experiencing a variety of medical, physical, emotional, or behavioral needs.

Terms of Employment: Employment is on an as-needed, hourly basis. Compensation and work schedule are established annually by the Middlesex County School Board and are subject to available funding and student needs. Conditions of Employment: Applicants recommended for employment must successfully complete all required pre-employment screenings, including:

• Criminal background investigation

• Child Protective Services (CPS) clearance

• Tuberculosis screening, if required

• Verification of Virginia teaching licensure

• Verification of education and employment history
