About this role
Position: Part-Time K-3 Behavior Intervention Teaching Assistant - John Sevier Elementary is seeking a qualified candidate for a behavioral teaching assistant position to work directly with the MCS K-3 Behavioral Intervention Specialist. Education, Certification and Related Work Experience:
• High School Diploma (2 years college preferred)
• Experience working directly with children
• De-escalation and therapeutic restraint training or (willingness to complete certification training)
Job Expectations
• Report to Building Principal and the MCS K-3 Behavioral Intervention Specialist
• Under the supervision and guidance of the district Behavior Management Specialist, provide direct behavior intervention to students through a pull-out and push-in model, where the supportive service ensures a safe, non-threatening, nurturing environment where students can thrive.
• Develop a repertoire of behavioral intervention and behavioral assessment strategies to support teachers in their implementation of positive behavior support and restorative practices in their classrooms.
• Assist in developing MCS Behavioral Support Program components, a complete repository of guidance documents, necessary artifacts, and resources.
• Maintain student behavior records.
• Complete on-going professional development through direct coaching, conferences, workshops, and research.
• Other responsibilities as assigned by administration.
Qualities of Desired Candidates
• Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, teaching assistants, school counselor(s), school psychologist(s) and school administrators to provide consistent and reliable behavioral support.
• Aptitude and flexibility to work with multiple schedules and student needs.
• Ability to lift and/or physically manage students of varying sizes and weight (e.g., lifting up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, sitting for long periods of time, walking, seeing, standing for extended periods of time, etc.).
• Honesty, flexibility, confidentiality, professionalism, commitment, and loyalty.
