About this role

Overall Purpose The job of District Translator is done for the purpose/s of providing English/Spanish translation services for district staff, teachers, students, and families to facilitate communication. Pay Scale: NT-13 Direct Supervisor Executive Director of Public Relations and Communications Essential Functions

• Assists the school system in communicating with students and families in understanding system and/or school requirements and processes for the purpose of supporting student learning and achievement.

• Completes translation of documents.

• Organizes interpreting services (parent/teacher conferences, open house, etc.) for the purpose of meeting the needs of families and schools.

• Assists Parent Information Center for the purpose of registering non-English speaking families.

• Provides technical support to schools for the purpose of accessing translated materials from the Department of Education (TransAct).

• Translates critical information for presentation to parents on websites and other public venues.

• Builds partnerships with local agencies (Catholic Social Services, UGA's Romance Languages Department, etc.) for the purpose of developing a volunteer program for interpreting.

• Responds to emergency needs for translation for all schools.

Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with a variety of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; use job-related equipment; demonstrate flexibility to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; operate equipment using standardized methods; work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; analyze issues and create action plans; independently interpret guidelines; problem solve with equipment in some circumstances; establish and maintain constructive relationships; adapt to changing work priorities; maintain confidentiality; exhibit tact and patience; and be able to work flexible hours Requirements High school diploma or GED equivalent College training and/or academic preparation in both English and Spanish preferred Bilingual and bi-literate in English and Spanish Reliable transportation between sites Physical Requirements The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 75% sitting, 15% walking, and 10% standing.
