POSITION PURPOSE/SUMMARY To help reduce or eliminate speech and language impairments that interfere with the individual student's ability to benefit from the district's educational program. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS As set by state certification authorities and the Missouri Board of Registration for the Healing Arts ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provides appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual students' needs and reduce or eliminate existing speech or language impairments.

• Assists teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments.

• Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, hearing, and language impairments.

• Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.

• Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the student's daily activities.

• Prepares for provision of therapy services and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of the principal.

• Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policies and administrative regulations.

• Attend and participate in faculty meetings.

• Assists in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.

• Accepts a share of responsibility for co-curricular activities as assigned.

• Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others.

• Provides for their own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.

MENTAL DEMANDS Ability to maintain highly confidential information; communicate clearly both orally and in writing, and/or ability to reason and make appropriate decisions. Solve a variety of problems in many different situations and have strong attention to detail. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this position an employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, and present. This employee may occasionally be required to lift up to 20 lbs. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT Salary and work year to be according to the current salary schedule and the Professional Agreement. Days employed in excess of the established work calendar shall be payable at the employee's regular daily rate. EVALUATION Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
