About this role
PRIMARY PURPOSE: To assist the Head Mariachi Director develop and maintain a quality music program in grades eight through twelve in the Rio Grande City Consolidated Independent School District. QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience in the field of Mariachi Music
• Work experience and professional experience that relates to teaching and performance of Mariachi literature
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Demonstrates knowledge of subject matter.
• Promotes student participation and success in large and small groups.
• Assists the Mariachi Director to implement the available music curriculum effectively.
• Assists the Mariachi Director to plan effectively for instruction.
• Uses critiques, auditions, and competitions as motivation for the learning process.
• Assists the Mariachi Director to maintain an effective before and after school instructional routine.
• Assists the Mariachi Director to maintain good discipline and control of rehearsals.
• Assists the Mariachi Director to maintain student enrollment sufficient to achieve program goals
• Assists the Mariachi Director schedule quality public performances of a number appropriate for each ensemble under his/her direction or supervision.
• Selects music literature of appropriate quality.
• Encourages younger students to continue mariachi performance.
• Uses his/her instrument to model correct playing practices.
• Uses rehearsal techniques which result in acceptable student performance.
• Assists the Mariachi Director to direct and is responsible for the success of mariachi band.
• Demonstrates conducting skills adequate to teach and direct a quality program.
• Works cooperatively with music staff.
• Contributes to long and short-range planning.
• Exercises professional judgment in dealing with students.
• Is effective in written and oral communication.
• Is prompt, discreet, and accurate in maintaining records and in submitting reports and other requests for information.
• Is punctual.
• Maintains current inventory records and provides for maintenance and security of school-owned instruments and equipment.
• Maintains a physical environment which is conducive to learning.
• Maintains appropriate dress and grooming.
• Observes policies and procedures of the District, the Local Campus, and the Fine Arts Department
• Participates in appropriate professional organizations.
• Uses budgeted fund effectively.
• Shows concern for students' success in music and other activities.
• Supports other RGCCISD music and campus instructional programs.
• Supports other staff members.
• Uses professional judgement in dealing with parents and the general public.
• Uses professional judgement in administering student activities.
• Promotes teamwork among students and staff.
• Keeps his/her principal and director informed.
• Exercises professional judgment in absences from work.
• Assists High School Mariachi Director.
• Performs other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor (Music Director).
WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent district and occasional statewide travel, frequent prolonged and irregular hours; outdoor and indoor work; exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather.
