Job Title: GEAR UP Facilitator (Grant Funded) Wage/Hour Status: Exempt Department: Assigned Campus Reports To: Campus Principal Approved By: Superintendent ____________________________________________________________________________________________ SUMMARY: Duration of Grant The GEAR-UP Facilitator will work with cohort student group through the term of grant funding to increase postsecondary enrollment by providing leadership, training, and technical assistance in supporting systemic reform of school services for student academic success QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION:

• Degree in counseling or counseling hours preferred

EXPERIENCE: Three or more years of successful classroom teaching experience CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS: Texas teaching certificate Bilingual/ESL certification preferred OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Working knowledge of Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills (TEKS), Texas Accountability Reports, Texas Assessment System, and instructional technology.

• Effective organizational, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills in English and Spanish.

• Knowledge of secondary school operations and structure, including curriculum and instruction, teaching and classroom management strategies, and assessments and evaluation.

• Ability to use personal computer and software to develop spreadsheets, databases, and do word processing.

• Ability to meet established deadlines.

• Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Program Management

• Coordinate all aspects of the GEAR UP Partnership with Region One ESC representatives.

• Promote GEAR UP goals and objectives to students, parents, teachers, and other stakeholders.

• Develop training materials to provide staff development sessions for GEAR UP teachers, tutors, mentors and parents.

• Initiate methods for improving the implementation of the GEAR UP goals and objectives at the campus level.

• Develop and support GEAR UP parent initiatives at the campus level.

• Meet with teachers and students regularly to monitor implementation of GEAR UP academic initiatives.

• Demonstrate effective teaching practices utilizing specialized materials and equipment.

• Monitor and report progress of GEAR UP objectives to district and regional personnel.

• Acquire knowledge and receive training to prepare students for institutions of higher learning.

Policy, Reports, and Law

• Recruit, train, and coordinate tutor activities.

• Perform budgetary, record keeping, and data management requirements of the GEAR UP federal grant

• Maintain accurate and complete auditable documentation.

• Perform other related GEAR UP duties as assigned by the principal.

• Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.

• Maintain confidentiality.

• Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.

• Participate in meetings and special events as assigned.

• Exercise professional judgment in absences; be punctual to work, meetings, and appointments.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises assigned students and staff LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively in English/Spanish before groups. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, occasionally walk and stand, talk or hear and travel from one building to another or to other sites. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. Light to moderate lifting is required. This position requires meeting deadlines with severe constraints, interacting with the public and staff, and enduring irregular or extended work hours. The employee must maintain emotional control under stress. WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inside. The noise level in the work environment will vary depending on the site and the activity being conducted.
