Licensed Professional Maintenance Mechanic 2026 - 2027 School Year Building & Grounds Department DESCRIPTION Maintenance HVAC Technician POSITION SUMMARY Licensed Professional / Maintenance Mechanics shall maintain and repair the physical plant, mechanical systems and electrical systems as assigned and as designated by their valid license.
• Under their valid professional license, perform tasks requiring the certificate.
• When necessary, use their valid license to purchase products that are not available to the general public.
• Maintain, repair or install;
• heating, air conditioning and ventilation equipment;
• plumbing and utility systems;
• controls and regulators both electronic and mechanical;
• masonry, tiling both interior and exterior;
• flooring, cabinetry and carpentry;
• roofing and waterproofing;
• glazing and calking, as assigned.
• Perform interior and exterior painting.
• Remove, dismantle and assist in equipment repairs to be made by manufacturer or contractor.
• Be proficient in the use of hand, power and bench tools including, but not limited to, grinders, saws, drills, drill press, metal working tools and welding.
• Build additions or remodel existing structures.
• Drive and operates; vans, trucks, dump truck, bucket truck and heavy equipment.
• Assist in determining the parts and/or materials required to make installations or repairs.
• In cases of emergencies or personnel shortages, may be assigned to Grounds of Custodial positions.
• To the best of their ability, be available for emergencies outside of the normal workday.
• Must be able to complete all physical duties as assigned at 100% capacity.
• Essential Functions/ Continuous (66 - 100% of work time) Physical duties:

• Push/ Pull 1 - 10 pounds unassisted
• Frequent (45 - 66% of work time) Physical duties:

• Repetitive arm and wrist use

• Stand ( for 4 or more hours at a time )
• Sit ( for 30 minutes or more at a time )
• Use of Motor Vehicles/ Lawn Maintenance Equipment
• Work with/ near building maintenance equipment, power tools, impact tools, fumes, heights, and tight places
• Occasional (33% or less of work time) Physical duties:
• Lift/ Carry 51 - 100 pounds unassisted
• Push/ Pull 51 - 100 pounds unassisted
• Kneel/ Crawl
• Repetitive Grabbing/ Squeezing
• Work with/ near cleaning chemicals
• Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Licensed Professional / Maintenance Mechanics must maintain a valid professional licence.
• Licensed Professional / Maintenance Mechanics shall be able to perform the essential functions of their position at 100% capacity, without any permanent physical limitations that would limit his/her ability.
• Be a licensed driver and/or have transportation to and from the work site.
• Possesses a Black Seal Operating Engineer's License or shall enroll in a Black Seal qualifying program in accordance with the Franklin Township Support Staff Association Agreement.
• Demonstrate advanced mechanical aptitude with hand and power tools, and other necessary equipment to fulfill assigned tasks.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Compliance with the NJ FIRST Act
• Successful Criminal History Clearance
• Proof of U.S. Citizenship or appropriate employment authorization
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT 12 - Month Contract. Salary and benefits as determined by the Board of Education and any applicable and collective negotiations agreement.
COMPENSATION In accordance with the provisions of the BOE/FTSSA collective bargaining agreement, the compensation range for this position in the 26/27 SY is Step 0 ($27.11/ hourly) - Step 7 ($30.99/ hourly). Compensation will be commensurate with experience and education. BENEFITS For full time staff include:
