Reports To: Principal and Athletic Director Work Schedule: Teacher Contract (with additional athletic duties as assigned) Position Summary The Weightlifting Teacher/Strength & Conditioning Coach is responsible for providing a safe, structured, and engaging strength and conditioning program that supports student health, physical fitness, athletic performance, and lifelong wellness. This individual will work collaboratively with school administrators, coaches, teachers, and student-athletes to develop a culture of discipline, accountability, and excellence while maintaining a safe and positive learning environment. ### Essential Duties and Responsibilities * Plan and deliver daily instruction aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for Healthful Living/Weight Training. * Develop and implement strength, conditioning, speed, agility, flexibility, and injury-prevention programs for students. * Teach proper lifting techniques, equipment use, spotting procedures, and weight room safety protocols. * Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with varying fitness levels and abilities. * Maintain accurate attendance, grades, lesson plans, and student records. * Supervise students before, during, and after class to ensure safety and appropriate behavior. * Inspect, maintain, and organize all weight room equipment; report repairs or safety concerns promptly. * Collaborate with athletic coaches to develop year-round strength and conditioning programs that support all athletic teams. * Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and personal responsibility. * Support school-wide initiatives focused on attendance, academic achievement, and positive school culture. * Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), faculty meetings, professional development, and school events. * Assist with supervision duties and other responsibilities assigned by the Principal or Athletic Director. ### Qualifications * Valid North Carolina Teaching License (or eligible for licensure). * Degree in Physical Education, Health, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field preferred. * Experience teaching weightlifting, physical education, or strength and conditioning preferred. * CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification (or willingness to obtain). * Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills. * Demonstrated commitment to student success and positive relationships. ### Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Knowledge of strength training principles and current conditioning practices. * Ability to motivate and inspire students from diverse backgrounds. * Strong understanding of injury prevention and safe exercise techniques. * Ability to establish positive relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners. * Effective technology and data management skills. ### Physical Requirements * Ability to demonstrate exercises and lifting techniques. * Ability to lift, move, and organize fitness equipment. * Ability to stand, walk, and actively supervise students for extended periods. ### Expectations The successful candidate will: * Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement. * Maintain a safe, clean, and organized weight room environment. * Model professionalism, integrity, and positive leadership. * Encourage student participation in healthy lifestyles and school activities. * Support the mission and vision of Vance County High School by helping students become college, career, and community ready. **Vance County High School is committed to providing equal educational and employment opportunities and encourages qualified applicants who are passionate about developing students academically, physically, and personally.**
