For more information contact: Brad Sweatman at [email protected] Title: Route Specialist Reports to: Director of Transportation Terms of Employment: 12 month Salary: Pay Grade - 62 ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Audit routes: times, lot checks, stops and safety issues
• Ride all bus routes at assigned locations as needed to ensure location/safety of stops
• Substitute driving of buses as needed
• Coordinate summer program routes
• Collect bus/bus lot data from each assigned locations to avoid overlapping travel or routing
• Provide support, feedback and regular communication to bus drivers in the process of updating and reporting data on the TD29 updates
• Assist in investigating accidents; prepare initial paperwork; obtain pictures; and assist at the scene
• Work with parents and administrators with resolving conflicts regarding bus routing issues while complying with the confidentiality requirements in local, state, and federal policies
• Assist in coordinating the local bus rodeo
• Work with TIMS Coordinator regarding route changes and updating of information for the central office
• Report any Geocode questions or concerns to the TIMS Coordinator
• Enter TIMS data for assigned area
• Responsible for preparing and submitting annual Pupil Transportation Reports
• Prepare customized reports for local school needs
• Attend conferences and classes to develop and maintain knowledge of TIMS database
• Organize bus safety programs and use of "Buster the Bus' for elementary schools
• Assist other route specialist as needed
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
• Assist as needed in the Transportation Department office
• All other duties as assigned by the Director
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
• Pupil transportation experience desirable
• Knowledge of Edulog NT I TIMS desirable
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Possession of a CDL with a passenger and school bus endorsement
• Ability to apply a high degree of proactive Customer Service skills
• Excellent organization skills and ability to multitask
• Ability to work effectively with other people, proactive customer service skills
• Ability to read various maps (street, boundary, GIS, etc.) proficiently
• Ability to use Microsoft Office products; Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
• Considerable knowledge of computers, computer commands, peripherals, and various operating systems, and general office machines
• Ability to generate typical business correspondence exhibiting strong skills in vocabulary, grammar, and spelling
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions with little direct supervision; to sort and place items in proper sequence; to compare and compile written information carefully and accurately
• Ability to manage the daily efficient organization of multiple assigned school and areas in regard to pupil transportation
• Ability to apply technical expertise required while managing bus routing within the TIMS program, utilizing detailed procedures and techniques within a predetermined area assignment
• Detail oriented and self motivated.
• Knowledge of and ability to correctly interpret: state laws, school guidelines and school board policies pertaining to school bus transportation Internet skills a must
Data Base knowledge desirable. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Must be able to perform sedentary work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Some positions assigned to this class may require light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
