TITLE: Intermediate School Counselor REPORTS TO: Principal JOB GOAL: Providing all students with counseling services that facilitate academic, career, and social/emotional development. Empowering students to overcome barriers that impede learning. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Conducts counseling sessions with elementary students on an individual and small group basis at least 60% of the school year.
• Confers with itinerant teachers, classroom teachers, principal and supervisors in order to assess current counseling needs of elementary students.
• Organizes the development and evaluation of the school counseling plan with input from the Counselor's Advisory Board, teachers, students and administrators.
• Conducts in-service programs for elementary teachers and/or parents regarding counseling techniques and services.
• Conducts home visits, as appropriate, with the principal, DPP, Family Resource Director and other administrators.
• Interprets results of cognitive, aptitude and achievement tests.
• Maintains a current file of appropriate service agencies and professional consultants. Suggests appropriate person or agency to stakeholders for individual students.
• Assists with transition of students between Primary and Middle schools.
• Maintains accurate records of conferences with students, teachers, parents and other appropriate stakeholders.
• Assumes responsibility for his/her own professional growth and development.
• Teachers counseling classes based on ASCA Standards, 2017.
• Performs other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or superintendent.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Certificate endorsed for school counseling.
• Three years teaching experience.
• Master's degree.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
• Satisfactory completion of state mandated health examination.
EVALUATION:
• Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Principal.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
• Salary commensurate with the Russell Independent Schools certified salary schedule.
