POSITION SUMMARY: Under supervision of principal, assists students and staff become more effective users of library resources. To facilitate, plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program to meet the varied needs of all learners. Responsible for curriculum implementation in a variety of formats and use of technology. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Survey the school's educational program and the requirements for teaching and learning resources
• Plan and implement the organization of the library program with the building principal
• Select and arrange library furniture and equipment
• Schedule, train, and supervise the library aide staff
• Schedule the use of the library by classes, small groups, and individuals
• Assist the principal in selecting library materials and administer the library budget
• Plan with the teaching staff for the integration of the library program with the educational program
• Prepare statistical, financial, and state department reports
• Supervise and organize the circulation of library materials
• Publicize the services and resources of the library
• Evaluate the building library program, services, and materials in terms of adequacy in meeting curricular needs, student needs, and state standards
• Participate actively in library and other educational and professional associations on the local and state level
• Responsible for processing learning materials obtained under governmental grants (Chapter 2) and appropriate record keeping for same
• Study and be knowledgeable of all aspects of the educational program: courses of study, textbooks, manuals, workbooks, resource units, teacher-made study guides and plans, pilot projects, and seed money proposals
• Actively plan with individual teachers and groups of teachers to integrate library service and materials with the classroom teaching program
• Provide library service, guidance, and resources which will customize and personalize teaching
• Share with classroom teachers the responsibility for designing and implementing a functional library study skills program
• Participate in departmental and faculty meetings
• Participate in curriculum study and revision
• Provide materials for the professional growth of the faculty
• Assure that the overall appearance of library media center is attractive and comfortable with an atmosphere which encourages student use
• Prepare routines and procedures for selecting, ordering, processing, and organizing materials
• Perform other duties or special projects as assigned by the building principal

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
• Minimum BS or BA degree with Missouri certification as a librarian in appropriate grade levels
• Demonstrate ability to organize and communicate in an efficient and productive manner to accomplish the essential job tasks of position
• Prefer candidates who have had some classroom experience and who have up-to-date knowledge of media and new developments in learning and instruction.
• Demonstrate a friendly and helpful attitude in working with fellow school staff members, students, and parents
• Knowledge of implementation of relevant technology
• Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position
