FLSA:NON-EXEMPT QUALIFICATIONS: • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent diploma • Must be hired with the ability to meet the needs of the specific child i.e., ability to lift to make wheelchair transfers, assist with bathroom needs, and perform simple medical tasks such as catheterization, trachea cleaning, etc. • Meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

• Associate degree;

• At least 48 college credit hours;

• OR Pass the Para-Pro Assessment

REPORTS TO: Principal / Director of Special Education SUPERVISES: None TERM: Nine (9) months SALARY: Paraprofessional Salary Schedule PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Ability to lift to make wheelchair transfers 2. Assist with bathroom needs (Consideration should be given to assignment of same sex Child Specific Aide to older students) 3. Perform simple medical tasks such as catheterization, trachea cleaning, etc. 4. Assist student during instruction as needed (Including A.P.E. activities when requested) 5. Assist with feeding needs 6. Attend to the student's needs from arrival to departure, including bus unloading and loading 7. The first priority of the child Specific Aide is to the assigned student. However, as long as the assigned child's needs are being met the Child Specific Aide may assist other special needs children. GUIDELINES GOVERNING POSITION: 1. Exempt from transfers when an overage of aides occurs within a school and the assigned child still attends that school 2. Child Specific Aides are to follow the assigned child from year-to-year, including when the child changes schools 3. Employment contract will be terminated with the demise of the child, the child withdraws from the school system, or the child no longer requires an aide as determined by the I.E.P. Committee (Individual Education Committee) 4. Child Specific Aides will be hired and assigned by the Special Education Department because of the unique demands of these exceptional children 5. In the event of the absence of the assigned child, the Child Specific Aide should be assigned by the principal to work with other special needs students
