Preschool Teacher Substitute *Timeline to be determined Job Description: We are seeking a passionate Special Education Preschool Teacher to support students, both with and without disabilities, using research-based curricula and the Early Learning and Development Guidelines. The teacher will create a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment that meets each student's individual needs. This role also involves collaborating with the high school CTE Child Development teacher to develop a program in which high school students work directly with preschool students. Responsibilities:
• Instruct preschool-aged students using research-based curricula and pedagogical strategies aligned with Early Learning and Development Guidelines.
• Design and maintain a structured environment that addresses learning, safety, and student development.
• Draft, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs); assess student performance and track progress throughout the school year.
• Schedule and conduct IEP meetings to discuss students' progress, placement, and programming with parents, teachers, specialists, partnering agencies, and administrators.
• Support students' individual learning, social, and developmental needs.
• Work closely with therapists and other specialists to support students' learning, development, and individual needs.
• Oversee, lead, and mentor paraeducators who work directly with students.
• Provide special education services while overseeing and supporting staff in the delivery of services to students enrolled in community partner programs (e.g., Head Start, EACAP).
• Collaborate with the high school CTE Child Development teacher to design and implement a program where high school students work with preschool students, gaining hands-on experience and building skills in child development.
• Work collegially and professionally with all staff within the program.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
Qualifications:
• Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate or the ability to obtain one.
• Special Education Certification required.
• Previous successful teaching experience with students with disabilities preferred.
• Early Childhood Education Certification (P-4) preferred; K-8 required.
• Previous successful teaching experience with preschool students preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of state and federal laws regarding students with disabilities, with strong IEP writing skills.
• Safety Care and Ukeru certification preferred.
• Experience with AAC devices and PECS training preferred.
• Knowledge of Early Learning Benchmarks and ABA methodologies with practical application preferred.
• Excellent attendance required.
Physical Requirements: The job's functions requires the following physical demands:
• Occasional lifting (up to 30 pounds); carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some running; some climbing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; and significant reaching, handling, speaking, writing, hearing, and fine finger dexterity; frequent standing, walking, and sitting.
• Crisis management of students in emotional or physical dysregulation.
• Assistance with student self care such as: toileting, feeding, and use of medical equipment such as lifts, braces, standers, and chairs.
