As Equinox Gold continues to grow, we are seeking a Senior Project Engineer to join our team and play a critical role in the successful execution of our projects. The Senior Project Engineer will spend most of their time in the field, monitoring contractors, ensuring work is performed safely and efficiently, and verifying that all construction aligns with approved engineering designs, specifications, and quality standards. This role will ensure that the process plant, heap leach pad, and ancillary facilities are built safely, correctly, and on schedule by providing constant on-site oversight and resolving field execution issues immediately.
Responsibilities
• Conduct continuous field walk-throughs to monitor contractor performance, ensuring work matches drawings and specifications.
• Verify that construction quality meets project standards for the ADR plant, heap leach pad, solution systems, and ancillary facilities.
• Document physical daily progress, verify field quantities of materials used, and capture site progress photographs.
• Work directly on-site with the mine operations team to coordinate equipment readiness and operator training during transitions.
• Assist in identifying, scoping, and tracking small-scale capital improvement projects and life-of-mine asset replacements once primary infrastructure goes live.
• Track life-of-mine sustaining capital expenditures against authorized budgets, verifying that field quantities match progress invoices.
• Process and evaluate contractor change order requests, gathering field data to justify or refute scope adjustments.
• Manage the submittal, RFI, and transmittal logs to ensure the field crew is working off the latest engineering revisions.
• Actively monitor the job site to ensure contractors comply with all MSHA standards and surface facility safety regulations.
• Perform daily field checks to ensure strict containment compliance, particularly around areas handling cyanide solutions.
• Participate in and support weekly safety and environmental site walks and inspections.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in construction engineering or equivalent field experience.
• Ten or more years of experience in engineering or project execution within the mining industry.
• Five or more years of experience in project management, preferably leading large-scale capital projects.
• Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary, heavy construction projects, including project commissioning.
• Proven ability to oversee field construction activities while ensuring compliance with engineering specifications, safety standards, and project schedules.
• Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to identify and resolve issues proactively.
• Extensive field construction experience with a strong commitment to health and safety.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to coordinate contractors, consultants, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (intermediate level or higher).
• Ability to travel domestically.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
