Business Development Officer (BDO)

Status

Parttime role (40% / 2 days / 14 hours) in addition to current duties, for an 18-month pilot period with the hope and expectation that this will be made permanent.

Reporting to: CEO

Salary Scale

Development Officers Scale: A number of additional points on the relevant scale, depending on the successful candidate’s experience.

What is the purpose of the job?

This is a new role within the organisation and entails developing and supporting funding applications across the organisation for development programmes, projects, initiatives, etc.

Main Responsibilities of the job (Job Description)

Strategic Planning and Service Development

The Business Development Officer will work with the CEO and leadership teams to support NEWKD in sustaining existing and developing new funding streams in line with our Strategy 2030, to enhance and expand our work and sustain roles for staff.

Leadership

• Funding development and applications: The BDO will provide leadership and guidance to the organisation in identifying new funding opportunities and leading / supporting the preparation of funding applications, business cases, and proposals aligned with NEWKD’s strategic plan.

• Strategic and organisational support: Collaborate with senior management to inform planning, utilising and informing data / CRM collection systems.

• Be aware of and include as appropriate all aspects of the business in representing NEWKD well in all applications (finance / budgeting, operations, governance, administration, management, etc.), and to develop a dedicated library of resources.

Operational Excellence

• Develop and maintain positive partner and stakeholder relations, while representing the organisation to external stakeholders, including funders, the Board of Management and various committees as required.

• Work across functional areas and with stakeholders to support the achievement of the organisation’s strategic goals and objectives.

• Promote and support a culture of collaboration and service integration across the organisation.

• Seek feedback from stakeholders to improve delivery.

Experience, Skills and Knowledge

The Business Development Officer should be able to demonstrate the following:

Experience (Essential)

• Preparation of proposals for tenders and / or funding submissions, including ideally EU funding

• Lead, manage and motivate people and teams.

• Ability to research and identify opportunities for growth and improvement.

• Strategic and annual planning.

• Willingness and capacity to take and implement instruction.

Knowledge

• Understanding of the dynamics of the community and voluntary sector (essential)

• Knowledge of the processes and requirements of expressions of interest, tendering, submissions / applications, including for EU funding.

• Comprehensive knowledge of strategic policy issues and is sensitive to wider political and organisational priorities

• Capacity to understand the breadth of the work carried out.

Personal Attributes

The person should have:

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

• Excellent IT skills with experience of CRM or similar software systems

• Expertise in project management and / or planning.

• The ability to manage ambiguity and change in a complex and dynamic environment.

• Commitment to the ethos and values of the organisation

• Effectively communicates with internal and external stakeholders, clearly articulating the organisation’s purpose and bringing internal and external stakeholders with them.

• Can effectively represent the organisation at public events and communicate with the media as required.

• Willingness and availability to travel both nationally and internationally – especially the EU) to explore and progress funding opportunities.

Terms and Conditions of Employment

Location: Current Location

Contract Type: A fixed term contract subject to the completion of a successful probationary review, if deemed appropriate.

Annual Leave: Per employment handbook

Travel & Subsistence: Travel and subsistence will be paid at public sector rates

Probation / Acting: While a probation period will not apply, the successful candidate will receive feedback on a 6 weekly basis or as required for the first 6 months in the role, which may be in an acting capacity.

Pension: NewKD operates a defined contribution group pension scheme. Employees have access to the scheme on successful completion of their six-month probationary period, where relevant.
