Overview
Under the general supervision of the Circulation Services Coordinator, the Library Clerk I position performs a variety of services for patrons of all ages addressing and performing both clerical duties and basic information services. This position is scheduled for 16-18 hours per week, typically enenings and weekends. General hours are Monday - Thursday 4 pm - 8 pm, Friday 2 pm - 6 pm, Saturday 10 am - 4pm and Sunday 1 pm - 5pm.
Responsibilities
• Serves library users at the Service Desk by checking in and out library materials, collects money for service fees and lost and damaged materials, issues new/replacement library cards, registers new patrons and processes name and address changes. Also assists with other circulation functions, holds, etc.
• Ensures circulation policies and procedures are followed for the proper handling of patron and material records for an accurate library database. Provides information to patrons regarding the Library’s circulation policies, procedures and refers issues to management as appropriate.
• Provides basic information services including reader’s advisory.
• Provides assistance to patrons and staff in the use of library technology and equipment.
• Responsible for collection maintenance duties: sorts and shelves library materials; empties book-drop(s); shelf-reading; shifts materials; cleans, dusts, and inspects library materials for damage; discards and repairs library materials.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
• High school diploma or GED required. College coursework preferred.
• Previous work experience in a library or retail setting preferred.
• Technology skills necessary to perform duties and responsibilities listed in the job description.
• Interpersonal and communication skills for interaction with staff and patrons in a highly effective and courteous manner.
• Basic mathematical skills necessary for routine calculations.
• Working knowledge and understanding of DDL policies and procedures.
• Ability to work with general supervision and adhere to established policies and procedures.
• Availability to work 16-18 hours per week mostly evening and weekends.
