Job Title: HVAC Paraprofessional Department/School/Program: Careerline Tech Center, Holland, MI Reports To: Director of Careerline Tech Center Job Type: Full-Time (school year) Start Date: August, 2026 FLSA: Non-Exempt Located at the Careerline Tech Center in Holland, MI, our Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Program Paraprofessional supports the instructional and operational needs of our HVAC program. In this role, you will work alongside the lead instructor to deliver state-of-the-art, hands-on training, preparing high school students for valuable industry credentials and future careers in the skilled trades. You will directly impact student success every day by assisting with laboratory/shop supervision, demonstrating proper tool and equipment diagnostics, and maintaining a safe, engaging, and well-equipped learning environment. Essential Job Functions
• Assist the instructor in delivering HVAC training aligned with industry and state standards.
• Demonstrate and model proper safety protocols, tool usage, and mechanical repair procedures.
• Guide and support students through hands-on technical processes in a modern lab/shop environment, including equipment maintenance, diagnostics, and mechanical repair projects.
• Supervise and guide students during equipment maintenance, diagnostics, and repair projects.
• Prepare, organize, and maintain shop tools, specialized diagnostic machinery, training equipment, and inventory supplies to ensure readiness for daily instruction.
• Monitor student safety, behavior, engagement, and professionalism; provide supportive redirection to maintain a safe, respectful, and productive studio/shop environment.
• Assist students with modified instruction and reinforcement of curriculum material as needed, including accommodating students with documented IEPs or 504 Plans.
• Maintain necessary documentation related to student accommodations in collaboration with instructors and support staff.
• Collaborate with the instructor to plan engaging lessons and support student success in achieving industry-recognized credentials.
• Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
• Required: A minimum of 60 college credit hours from an accredited institution OR 4,000 hours of recent and relevant HVAC industry experience within the past 6 years, which can be documented and verified.
• Required: Prior HVAC industry experience.
• Preferred Experience: Prior experience working with high school-aged students or in an instructional/coaching capacity.
Certifications and Qualifications
• Preferred Certifications:Current EPA 608 Universal Certification
• Preferred Certifications: Current CPR/First Aid Instructor certification (or willingness to obtain).
Required Skills & Abilities
• Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, industry-standard repair techniques, and basic physical sciences related to thermodynamics.
• Familiarity with shop tools, mechanical diagnostic technology, and heavy equipment commonly used in the heating and cooling trades.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build professional rapport with high school students, instructional staff, and local work-based learning business partners.
• Ability to work effectively with students of varying abilities and backgrounds in a fast-paced, hands-on mechanical environment.
• Commitment to supporting student achievement, problem-solving, and professional growth in skilled trade pathways.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
• Work is primarily performed in a classroom and simulated HVAC shop/lab environment; must be able to safely navigate and manage a variety of specialized mechanical equipment, heavy tools, and instructional materials.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and move about the classroom and lab for extended periods to provide hands-on student supervision and technical troubleshooting.
• Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, or pull classroom materials, heavy components, equipment batches, and tools up to 50 pounds with or without mechanical assistance.
• Manual dexterity and sensory abilities required to safely operate machinery, configure fine mechanical detailing, and evaluate student visual and structural performance.
Compensation and Employment Details
• Pay Range: $25.50-30.00 Per Hour commensurate with experience
• Full-time, School Year Calendar- 183 days per year
• Employee Group: Non-Union Hourly
