Chautauqua County Civil Service Application Job Description: The Substitute Teacher provides temporary instructional support in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. Responsibilities include managing classroom behavior, delivering pre-planned lessons, maintaining a safe and respectful learning environment, and ensuring continuity of instruction. The Substitute Teacher must follow school policies and work under the guidance of school administration and/or certified staff when needed. Key Responsibilities:
• Supervise students in a classroom setting.
• Implement lesson plans left by the regular teacher.
• Manage student behavior and ensure classroom order.
• Maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment.
• Report attendance, incidents, or concerns to appropriate staff.
• Follow district and school policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent and Associate's Degree (minimum).
• Ability to follow instructions and adapt to various classroom settings.
• Strong communication and classroom management skills.
• Background check and fingerprint clearance (as required by the district).
