SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The Scituate School Department seeks a dynamic, student-centered Art Teacher who is committed to ensuring high levels of learning for all students. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong content knowledge, effective instructional practices, and a commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students use art as a vehicle to reinforce core learning concepts and deepen understanding across content areas. The ideal candidate will collaborate with colleagues to support student achievement, contribute to a positive school culture, and actively participate in the district's ongoing efforts to improve outcomes for all learners. Instruction and Learning Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based art instruction aligned to Rhode Island and district curriculum expectations. Introduce students to a variety of artistic media, styles, and techniques. Integrate STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) principles into art instruction where appropriate. Utilize technology and digital media as tools for artistic expression and learning. Provide students with opportunities for choice, voice, and personal expression in their artistic work. Incorporate fundamental academic skills such as reading, writing, and mathematics into visual art lessons. Use art as a vehicle to reinforce core learning concepts and deepen understanding across content areas Foster student discourse, collaboration, inquiry, and productive struggle within the art classroom. Implement instructional practices that support equitable access to rigorous learning opportunities for all students. Assessment and Data-Informed Practice Utilize formative and summative assessment data to monitor student progress and inform instructional decision-making. Provide timely, meaningful feedback to students and families regarding academic performance and growth. Participate in collaborative analysis of student work and performance data to improve instructional practices and student outcomes. Maintain accurate and timely student records in accordance with district expectations. Learning Environment Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment. Promote positive student behavior, responsibility, self-advocacy, and perseverance. Create a classroom culture characterized by high expectations, mutual respect, and a growth mindset. Collaboration and Communication Collaborate with colleagues, special educators, interventionists, school counselors, and administrators to support student success. Participate actively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), grade-level teams, and school improvement efforts. Communicate effectively with students, families, and community members regarding student progress and classroom expectations. Support district initiatives related to curriculum, instruction, assessment, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), and continuous improvement. Professional Responsibilities Engage in ongoing professional learning and reflective practice. Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct in all interactions. Adhere to district policies, collective bargaining agreements, and all state and federal regulations. Contribute positively to the overall culture and mission of the Scituate School Department. Qualification Requirements: Valid Rhode Island Teaching Certificate required by the Rhode Island State Department of Education. Current Rhode Island Art Educator Pre-kindergarten to 12 (11501) Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. Commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students. Compliance with all Rhode Island Department of Education requirements. Preferred Experience teaching middle school students (grades 5–8) Demonstrated interest or experience in STEAM education Familiarity with digital art tools, design software, or other educational technology One (1) or more years of successful teaching experience. Experience utilizing student performance data to inform instruction. Experience supporting students with diverse learning needs, including students with disabilities and multilingual learners. Knowledge of MTSS, differentiation, and evidence-based practices. MLL endorsement and/or special education experience preferred. Terms of Employment Salary and benefits in accordance with the Scituate Teachers' Association Collective Bargaining Agreement.
