Academic Teacher – Kid City Afterschool Program Schedule (Part-Time Position) Monday–Thursday | 4:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. Position Overview: Academic Teachers provide engaging, small-group instruction in Literacy or Math for students in Grades K–5. Teachers support students' academic growth through hands-on, standards-aligned lessons while creating a positive and engaging learning environment. Key Responsibilities:
• Plan and deliver engaging Literacy or Math lessons for assigned students in Grades K–5.
• Provide instruction to small groups of 12 or fewer students.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the academic needs of students.
• Transition students safely to and from instructional sessions as needed.
• Foster a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.
• Build strong relationships with students to encourage positive behavior and engagement.
• Model professionalism and positive interactions with students, families, staff, and school personnel.
• Maintain accurate attendance and all required program documentation.
• Follow all Kid City, Dalton Public Schools, and 21st CCLC policies and procedures.
• Collaborate with site coordinators and fellow staff members to ensure high-quality programming.
Qualifications: Certified Teachers:
• Hold a valid teaching certificate.
• One year of classroom teaching experience preferred.
Non-Certified Academic Staff:
• Currently enrolled in or have completed college-level education coursework, or
• Have at least one year of experience as a paraprofessional or instructional support staff member.
• Current Dalton Public Schools paraprofessionals may qualify for an Academic Teacher position.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working with elementary-aged students in Grades K–5.
• Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills.
• Knowledge of elementary literacy and/or mathematics instruction.
• Ability to plan engaging, hands-on learning experiences.
• Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
• Commitment to creating a welcoming and supportive learning environment for all students.
