Health Science Teacher

Position Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and qualified Health Science Teacher to provide instruction in the Healthcare Professional pathway. The successful candidate will teach courses such as Health Science I and Health Science II, covering topics ranging from human anatomy and physiology to healthcare industry standards, safety, and infection control. This position requires a professional with significant clinical or healthcare experience who can prepare students for careers in the medical field through projects, teamwork, and the pursuit of industry-recognized credentials. Responsibilities:

• Instruction: Lead students through the exploration of anatomy, physiology, diseases, and disorders within human body systems.

• Skill Development: Teach students to recognize and respond to first aid emergencies and develop clinical skills related to the cardiovascular and respiratory systems.

• Career Preparation: Educate students on the healthcare industry, including employability skills, cultural awareness, and safety/infection control procedures.

• Pathway Guidance: Facilitate projects and collaborations that help students gain the knowledge and credentials necessary for the Healthcare Professional pathway.

• Classroom Management: Organize the classroom to maximize learning and meet the diverse needs of all students.

Qualifications and Licensure Requirements:

Candidates must be eligible for North Carolina CTE Licensure under either the Health Science Education-RN (720) or Health Science Education-Non RN (721) pathways. Path 1: Health Science Education-RN (License 720)

• Minimum Degree: Bachelor's, Associate, or a 3-year Diploma program in Nursing.

• Work Experience: At least 2 years as an active clinical nurse in settings such as long-term care, hospitals, physician's offices, public health departments, or surgical facilities.

• Required Credential Prior to Hire:

An unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse (RN). Must have also completed a course in teaching adults, have experience teaching adults, or have experience supervising nurse aides.

Path 2: Health Science Education-Non RN (License 721)

• Minimum Degree: Bachelor's or Associate degree (or a Diploma program for LPN/Advanced EMT) in a related field.

• Related Degrees: Including but not limited to Physical Therapy, Medical Technology, Dietetics/Nutrition, Physician Assistant, Athletic Training, Health Education, Respiratory Therapy, Dental Hygiene, Emergency Medical Science, Radiology, or Medical Assisting.

• Work Experience:

2 years of related work experience with a Bachelor's or Associate degree. 4 years of related work experience with a Diploma program.

• Required Credential Prior to Hire:

A healthcare license representative of the degree held (e.g., State License for PT, MD, or Respiratory Therapist; State Credential for Paramedic; NATA BOC for Athletic Trainers). Note: Candidates with a health education degree may use a successful score on the ETS Praxis Exam 5551 in lieu of an industry credential.

Licensure Conversion Requirements:

For those hired on an initial CTE Restricted license, the following must be completed within three years to convert to a Continuing Professional License:

• Completion of the NC CTE New Teacher Institute (a 2-year cohort program) OR.

• Completion of 18 semester hours of general pedagogy (including instructional planning, methods, and classroom management) and the New CTE Teacher Induction Program.
