About this role

The Assistant Baseball Coach for the Freshman Team supports the Head HS Baseball Coach in developing student-athletes both on and off the field. This position is responsible for teaching the fundamentals of baseball, promoting sportsmanship, fostering academic success, and creating a positive, disciplined, and inclusive team environment. The assistant coach plays an important role in preparing athletes for advancement within the high school baseball program. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Coach in planning and conducting daily practices and game-day activities.

• Teach and reinforce baseball fundamentals, including hitting, pitching, fielding, base running, and game strategy.

• Develop players' skills while emphasizing teamwork, discipline, accountability, and sportsmanship.

• Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, team travel, and other team activities.

• Help evaluate player performance and provide constructive feedback for continued improvement.

• Assist with organizing and maintaining equipment, uniforms, and practice facilities.

• Ensure a safe practice and competition environment by following school and MSHSAA policies.

• Promote academic achievement and positive character development among student-athletes.

• Communicate effectively with players, parents, coaching staff, athletic administration, and school personnel.

• Support the overall baseball program by collaborating with coaches at all levels to ensure consistency in player development.

• Attend coaches' meetings, clinics, and professional development opportunities as required.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Baseball Coach or Athletic Director.

Qualifications

• Previous baseball coaching or competitive playing experience preferred.

• Knowledge of baseball fundamentals, rules, and player development.

• Ability to effectively teach and motivate high school student-athletes.

• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required during the season.

• Must meet all state, district, and MSHSAA certification requirements.

• CPR, First Aid, and concussion certification required by the school district.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

• Ability to demonstrate baseball skills and drills.

• Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
