About this role
Mechanic Position Summary: The Mechanic is responsible for maintaining District vehicles in safe, reliable, and efficient working condition to prevent disruptions to transportation and educational programs. Duties and Responsibilities:
• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on District vehicles and equipment.
• Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Conduct routine inspections, including lubrication, tire, and body condition assessments.
• Utilize diagnostic software for heavy-duty vehicles and OBDII systems (e.g., Cummins, International, General Motors).
• Operate shop equipment and tools safely and effectively.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date maintenance and repair records.
• Ensure tools, equipment, and shop areas are clean, organized, and safe.
• Perform basic welding and fabrication as needed.
• Order parts and maintain inventory necessary for vehicle maintenance and repair.
• Respond to inoperative vehicles to repair on-site or safely transport as needed.
• Follow all applicable safety standards and regulations, including OSHA, L&I, and Washington State Patrol requirements.
• Drive bus routes or operate District vehicles as needed.
• Communicate effectively with District staff, vendors, and community members.
• Demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, and the ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations.
• Follow oral and written instructions accurately.
• Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality.
• Collaborate with and support team members; assist in mentoring as appropriate.
• Must be willing to drive routes as needed.
• Other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director.
Physical Requirements:
• Regularly required to walk, sit, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, and pull.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
• Frequent bending, climbing, reaching, overhead work, and kneeling.
• Ability to work in confined or prone positions for extended periods.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions.
• Exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and odors.
Mandatory Conditions of Employment:
• Compliance with Federal Highway Administration drug and alcohol testing requirements, including pre-employment and random screenings for CDL-required positions.
• Successful completion of FBI and Washington State Patrol fingerprint background checks.
• Successful Washington State Sexual Misconduct clearance.
• Completion of federal I-9 employment eligibility verification.
• Must be willing to obtain CDL Class B through the Eastmont Driver Training School within 180 day probationary period.
