Senior Platform Software Engineer(Java, Microservices & Cloud)
OCI Merino CI/CD Platform Team: OCI – Merino Engineering Role: IC3 Backend Engineer / Senior Software Engineer Experience: 4–7 Years – Mandatory Location: Bangalore – Mandatory Work Type: Hybrid Team: The Merino team within Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) builds OCI's internal CI/CD change workflow platform for reliable software build, validation, approval, and deployment. Merino helps OCI engineering teams improve:
• Release automation • Deployment safety • Developer productivity • Change and deployment workflows • Platform reliability • Operational excellence This is a backend/cloud platform engineering team, not a traditional DevOps-only team. The engineer will build the microservices and distributed-system capabilities behind the CI/CD platform. Roles and Responsibilities:
• Design and develop scalable Java-based microservices and distributed backend services for the Merino platform. • Build cloud-native capabilities supporting CI/CD, build, validation, approvals, change management and deployment orchestration. • Take end-to-end ownership from architecture/design through coding, testing, deployment, monitoring and production support. • Design reliable and maintainable REST APIs and service integrations. • Develop integrations across build systems, release management, approvals, rollback and deployment workflows. • Build services with strong focus on scalability, reliability, security, fault tolerance and maintainability. • Participate in architecture, HLD/LLD, design reviews, code reviews and technical planning. • Participate in on-call/production support and troubleshoot service, API, integration and distributed-system issues. • Perform debugging and root-cause analysis (RCA) and implement permanent fixes. • Drive operational excellence through automation, testing, monitoring, observability and reliability improvements. • Handle system upgrades, patching and remediation of critical vulnerabilities. • Work with internal customers/stakeholders, understand their requirements/issues and provide effective technical solutions. • Independently own deliverables and ensure timelines and quality expectations are met. • Apply modern development practices, including AI-assisted development, while maintaining production-quality coding, testing and security standards. Mandatory Skills 1. Microservices Strong hands-on experience in: Microservices architecture + distributed backend systems + REST APIs + system/service design Candidate should have actually designed/developed microservices, not merely worked in an application that uses microservices. 2. Cloud Hands-on experience developing/deploying production services on at least one major cloud: OCI / AWS / GCP / Azure Should understand cloud-native service development, deployment and production operations. 3. Java Programming Strong hands-on Java coding is critical. Look for: Core Java + Spring Boot + REST APIs + multithreading/concurrency + design patterns + debugging + testing Candidate should be capable of independently designing and coding backend services. 4. End-to-End Ownership Candidate should demonstrate: Design → Development → Testing → Deployment → Monitoring → Production Support This is particularly important for Merino. The candidate should not be someone who only develops features and hands them over to another team. Good to Have Skills
• CI/CD platform or developer-platform engineering • Jenkins / GitHub Actions / GitLab CI or similar • Docker and Kubernetes • OCI / AWS / GCP / Azure • Kafka / Pub-Sub / SQS or other asynchronous/event-driven technologies • Distributed systems • System Design / HLD / LLD • Release automation • Deployment orchestration • Change-management workflows • Rollback strategies • Progressive delivery • Infrastructure/deployment automation • Observability and monitoring • Prometheus / Grafana / Splunk / Datadog • Retry, idempotency, fault tolerance and resiliency patterns • Security scanning and vulnerability remediation • API versioning and lifecycle management • AI-assisted development using Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot or similar • Experience reviewing/testing AI-generated code for production use
4–7 year hands-on Java Backend Engineer who has designed Spring Boot microservices/distributed systems on AWS/GCP/Azure/OCI and owns services end-to-end from design and coding through deployment, monitoring and production/on-call support. CI/CD/platform engineering exposure is highly preferred.
