About this role

Location: Radcliffe Department of Medicine, MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, John Radcliffe Hospital, Headington, Oxford OX3 9DS

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a proactive and committed individual to join the administrative team at the MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine and develop a rewarding career in research administration.

The Research Grants Officer plays a key role in supporting the Institute’s research activities, working closely with the Research Grants Manager to ensure that all research awards are administered in accordance with University financial regulations and funder terms and conditions.

This is a demanding and varied role, requiring the ability to manage a large portfolio of projects concurrently. It would suit a self-motivated individual with strong organisational and planning skills, who enjoys working proactively as part of a collaborative team. While the role is primarily focused on post-award management and financial reporting, there will also be opportunities to gain experience in pre-award activity and to become an expert user of the University’s costing and pricing tools (X5/ORMS).

You will be educated to A‑level standard or equivalent and will have substantial experience in an administrative role, ideally within a research or academic environment. You will be able to demonstrate your ability to manage a demanding workload, prioritise effectively, and meet competing deadlines. Knowledge of research grants and contracts, and experience of Oracle Financials or other financial management systems, would be advantageous.

This is a full-time, fixed-term post for 3 years and is available immediately. The post offers an excellent opportunity to develop specialist expertise and progress a career in research administration within a leading research institution.

Applications must be made online. Applicants are required to upload a CV and a supporting statement demonstrating how they meet the selection criteria.

The closing date for applications is 12:00 midday on Tuesday 5 May 2026. Interviews will be held on Thursday 21 May 2026.
