About this role

Job summary

Berrow Ward is located on Level 1 of the Weston Site of UHBW. The ward is 28bedded and cares for patients general medical input with a Ward speciality of Respiratory Medicine. We frequently care for Acutely unwell individuals requiring level 2 care such as Non invasive ventilation to name just a few, consequently the environment can be busy with high levels of MDT present.

As a Ward Clerk within this unit, you will play a key role in supporting the clinical and multidisciplinary teams by providing efficient clerical and administrative support. You will be responsible for managing the ward reception, assist with admissions, discharges and patient flow.

Working in this fast-paced, high acuity environment requires excellent organisational and communication skills, flexibility, and the ability to liaise effectively with teams across the hospital.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking a motivated and organised Ward Clerk to join our Respiratory Team. This is a key supportive role, working closely with the clinical nursing team to ensure the ward operates efficiently and provides a welcoming, well-organised environment for patients, relatives, and staff.

You will be responsible for managing the ward reception, greeting and assisting patients and visitors, and ensuring all clerical and administrative tasks are kept up to date.

The ideal candidate will be flexible, adaptable, and highly organised, with excellent communication skills. You will liaise with multidisciplinary teams across the hospital and work collaboratively with nursing staff to support the smooth day-to-day running of the department.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training Essential

Educated to GCSE, grade C or above (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths

Knowledge and Experience Essential

Previous reception or customer facing experience in a healthcare or public setting Clerical/administration experience including filing and/or reception

Skills and Abilities Essential

Excellent/professional telephone/ reception manner Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines whilst maintaining a high standard of accuracy Good IT skills including Microsoft packages Ability to work effectively in a busy team, adjust to change and motivate others Ability to work independently and as part of a team Confidence to handle difficult conversations with patients, relatives and carers
