About this role

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated individual to join the Ipswich Clinical Respiratory Physiology team as a Trainee Respiratory Clinical Physiologiston a fixed term contract for 24 months.

As a department we provide a comprehensive sleep and respiratory diagnostic service to patients of all ages, referred from a wide range of specialities from across the region. We are looking for an individual with a relevant degree/qualification who is passionate about respiratory physiology and is looking to begin their journey as a Respiratory Physiologist.

You will be trained to support the service, complete a range of lung function tests, as well as set up sleep studies and issue CPAP devices. It is expected that you will be fully competent within 12 to 18 months of starting. When your competencies have been completed, you will be progressed to a Band 5 Physiologist and will be encouraged to work towards completing the ARTP Practitioners Level III Qualification.

This is a fixed term post with the possibility of extension.

Main duties of the job

Competency in conducting simple and advanced respiratory/sleep procedures in the Lung Function Unit and on the wards, in accordance with the professional body guidelines/standards (ARTP) and in accordance with European Respiratory Society/American Thoracic Society criteria and departmental SOPs. Appropriate daily equipment calibration/validations utilising both mechanical and biological control procedures, in line with professional body and equipment manufacturer recommendations to ensure departmental equipment is functioning correctly.

Accurate recording and management of patient data, ensuring compliance with Trust confidentiality and quality control procedures

Person Specification

Experience Essential

oFamiliarity with a range of routine Respiratory/Sleep investigations

Desirable

oPractical experience of performing lung function tests or sleep study set up oPrevious experience working within a Respiratory and Sleep Physiology department

Qualifications Essential

oRelevant science degree or qualification (contains significant human physiology modules).

Desirable

oBSc. Clinical Physiology oBSc. Healthcare Science (Physiological Sciences) oBSc. Medical Physiology oAssociation of Respiratory Physiology and Technology (ARTP) Practitioner level III professional qualification (or working towards) oSpecialist Respiratory/Sleep course or training

oScience background oUnderstanding of the importance of good scientific practice oKnowledge of routine and some advanced Respiratory/Sleep investigations oAbility to motivate and encourage patients to successfully perform and complete physically demanding tests
